Victoria restaurants

Hi advisors, we'll be visisting with friends in Victoria for one night next week , any advise on a good restaurant with an inspired wine list?. Ethnic is O.K. [ but wine lists suffer sometimes ] downtown or Cook St. area? not outrageously expensive? thanks

what do you consider expensive? I thought Il terrazo was expensive. However, if Il terrazo fits your budget, some others I would try are:

Cafe Brio - extensive wine list and excellent food, makes a whole evening, not the place to dine in a hurry

Actually, I mostly notice the food, and not the wine. So as I am pondering your question, I am only remembering the food at various restaurants, not the wine. I guess I will just make recommendations on food then and you can google the website and see if the wine meets your needs.

Consider - Pescatores, Marina Restaurant, Black Olive.

My favorite of all of these is Cafe Brio, especially if you want a really relaxing evening and want to feel comfortable staying most of the evening there. I have never felt rushed to leave at this restaurant. However, the views at the Marina Restaurant are excellent but this restaurant is about 10-15 minutes from downtown by car.

As previously posted The Marina has great views but quite formal. There is Hugos Grill , Fire and Water and my favorite casual place,5th Street Bar and Grill

Thanks for the suggestions, I've been to Ill Terazzo a couple of times and enjoyed it. I'm looking for a new experience. I'm leaning towards the Black Olive, I liked thier menu and wine list on thier web site. Anyone been to the Reef ? or Paprikas? they also look interesting. Cafe Brio is also in the running, I think the Marina might be out of the way.

Have a look at this one - just past the Chinatown gate - casual French food - reservations a must http://www.lecole.ca/home.htm. Had a very good meal recently at the Superior Street Cafe in James Bay, with great music - you can find the menu and what is playing at http://www.thesuperior.ca/. Or, blow the budget, take a cab or rent a limo and go to the Deep Cove Chalet http://www.deepcovechalet.com/ - probably the best restaurant in the south island, but be prepared to spend a little more for the food and wine (you won't be disappointed with the wine list) - my French mother-in law's absolute favorite place to eat
