family skiing in March in whistler

Hi, all,

We are planning a family skiing holiday with a 4 year old boy. It's going to be our first time in WHistler. Will late March around 23rd be too late for good snow in Whistler? I know April would be risky.

A friend has recommended the Fairmont. How does this compare with the Westin and Pan Pacific Mountainside?

Thanks

The snow is great all through March and into April. Some of the best skiing is in the beginning of April, and thats when hotel rates usually come down. If you don't care about rates or crowds then you are safe anytime in March.

The Fairmont is in a completely different area than the Westin or Pan. Fairmont is in the upper village and about a 10 minute walk from the main village. Both the Westin and Pan are in the main village right next to the lifts. Hotelwise, the Westin is probably the nicest of the three in my opinion.

Both the Pan Pacific and Westin have full kitchens, so may be helpful if you want to make breakfast etc. Location wise, they are both in the village proper, so a bit more convenient than the Fairmont.

Personally I like the Fairmont, just because I love the service and the feel of the hotel, however the rooms are getting dated and need renovations.

When we travel with our four year old we prefer the Pan Pacific Village Centre (not the mountainside rooms are bigger and they store your skiis at the mountain which is about a 2 minute walk away). Rooms are large, and a full buffet breakfast is included. Unlike the Chateau the Pan Pacific has a kitchen, the best unit for us is the one bedroom and den on the sixth floor overlooking the pool. If you are going to take the little guy skiing go to Whistler (accessible from the Pan) to mid station. You won't be disappointed at the Pan Pacific Mountainside, we have stayed at the Westin but not our first choice with a child.
