Hi. Am planning a drive from Whistler to Jasper and then onto Banff. This will be in end June. Wanted some info on the drive, road conditions etc. Google maps shows this as a regional and not a national highway? Is it a divided 2 lane highway? Am traveling with family so a bit concerned about the drive.

We are also planning to do the drive in the same day but would surely want to stop at some scenic points along the way. Any suggestions on the place to visit along the route?

Thanks a lot for the help.

This will be a long drive. You can drive Whistler to Jasper in one day but it would be better to pln a stop..possibly at Clearwater. It is not divided highway..in fact most of it is two lane with some passing lanes at intervals. hwy 99 from Whistler to Lillooet is narrow ( very narrow in some spots) and winding but very scenic. Hwy 97 then hwy 24 and hwy 3 have some mountain parts, some straight ,lots of variety of landscape. suggest you look at previous posts about this drive..lots of info put "drive whistler to jasper" in the search box..also check www.drivebc.com for traffic cams and good links..under related links go to very bottom for distance calculator and maps. From Jasper to Banff you drive the ice fields parkway..one eof the most beautiful drives in the world. drive time is about 4 hours but allow a full day for stops. This will be a very busy time of year so be sure to have reservations in Jasper, Banff .

The distance from Whistler, via Lillooet, to Jasper is 750 km and about a 10 hour drive with no stops. The road between north of Whistler and Lillooet is a mountain highway, hilly with many twists and turns. It is now paved.

The distance from Whistler, via Lillooet, to Banff is 800 km and about 10.5 hours driving with no stops. You would be best to stay overnight somewhere near Kamloops or Revelstoke.

You can use the following website to see the roads at various places from Whistler east across the province. The webcams are live shots, so you will want to view them when it's daylight here. From the list, choose #3 Rocky Mountains East Kootenay for the full choices of webcams.

Here is an article from the BC Forums Top Questions that will give you some information on attractions along the section of the road that you would use from Kamloops east.
