Gratuity Question

This is a rather odd question, but I can't ever recall taking a private car service that cost over $300 (each way) before. We're arriving very late this coming Saturday and will be taking a car service from Vancouver to Whistler (and back in a week). Is there any general rule as to what is the "norm" for tipping your driver is on this route? Is it 10/15 or 20% (ouch).

We were all set with our entire vactaion budgeting until it became apparent that we would need a car service that costs a small fortune. C'est la vie.

Some would advise 10-15%...no right or wrong answer and certainly no consensus. Restaurants seem to attract a higher percentage than services.

Why not stay near the airport and catch the much cheaper shuttle the next morning? Even if you have a non-refundable condo booked in Whistler that you will have to pay for, it might still be cheaper to not have to pay that private shuttle. I you are staying in a regular hotel and can cancel that first night in Whistler, staying at the airport (or even downtown Vancouver, where you can also catch a Whistler shuttle) would be a no-brainer.

We had a private shuttle from Star Limos through our travel company but saw plenty people using the Sky Lynx service:

as a New yorker you should know that this type of job depends on tips. Min 10-15%. Did you look at Aerocar or even the bus service from Greyhound?
