Where to stay? First Tracks or Carleton Lodge

We are planning on spending 12/19-12/29/13 in Whistler. Does anyone have any thoughts on First Tracks over Carleton Lodge? I know they are in two different areas. We will be traveling with an 11yo and 8yo.

Pros?Cons?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Marie at Tourism Whistler.

Both are fantastic - but a few things to consider:

As you said, these two properties are in completely different locations. This should be the main consideration. Do you want to stay in the Village close to all the action, restaurants, bars, shops or would you prefer the quieter Creekside area?

Some points to consider regarding the actual properties:

- Each unit in the Carleton Lodge is uniquely decorated and furnished. They range from Bronze to Platinum levels. You will need to carefully select your condo to make sure you are getting the quality level you require.

- At First Tracks Lodge each unit is furnished and decorated exactly the same. Floor plans will vary and depend on size of unit you are booking. These are luxury suites and you will see very high ratings on TA.

- The Carleton lodge is considered to have one of the best locations in Whistler - right at the base of the mountain opposite the lifts. This is perfect if you want to be right in Whistler Village,

- The Carleton Lodge does not have amenities such as a pool, hot tub and fitness room. First Tracks Lodge offers all these.

- Maid service is every third day at the Carleton Lodge and daily at First Tracks Lodge.

Hope that helps!

Thank you those are good thoughts. IS there a downside to the Creekside area?

Creekside is 3 Km from Whistler Village, and has limited restaurant/grocery/nightlife options. It has some, but if you were hoping to be in the pedestrian village, that's a bus ride away. If all you want to do is ski and you were planning on cooking in, or if you aren't really particular about restaurants, Creekside is fine. You are less likely to be woken up by drunk people yelling at 2 am. :)

Carleton Lodge is in the very heart of the action, which is good on some levels, but I imagine it could be quite noisy. The Longhorn Bar is on the ground level and always has outdoor music playing.

I think Christy1 answered that question well.

Creekside is often favored by families as it is quieter and still has all the basic amenities you need - grocery store, liquor store, Starbucks, bank, post office and other stores.

There is still a good selection of restaurants. Your kids will love the Creekbread pizza restaurant and you are within walking distance to two of Whistler’s best fine dining restaurants - Rim Rock and Aura in the Nita Lake Lodge.

The ski school is located right opposite First Tracks Lodge.

If you are looking for a location to be close to whistler's nightlife, après spots, shops and a wide selection on restaurants, then Creekside is probably not the place to be. - Marie
