Whistler -Late Season

We are planning to visit Whstler in mid April for about 10 days (19th to the 29th), from New Zealand.

We have been to Whistler in the summer but never for skiing, and would appreciate some advice:

- I believe Whistler mountain closes on the 21st so it will be more convenient to stay around the Blackcomb base area. Many places offer ski in/out but assume that might not be the case so late in the season.

- we are planning to stay in Whistler the whole 10 days so not planning to have a rental car, at this stage. Which areas/condos are most convenient for the Blackcomb lifts. We also want to be within a reasonable walking distance to some resaurants (say within 10 minutes).

-Not sure what whether to bring our own gear or rent skis etc over there. Are there likely to be good deals available for 7+ day rentals.

-Are there any companies putting together complete packages, including transfers from Vancouver airport, accommodation, ski hire, lift passes etc?

Hi Marie here at Tourism Whistler

Last day for Whistler Mountain will be April 21st. Blackcomb Mountain will be open to May 19th.

Please review this link for spring operations from last year. I expect it will be similar for this year.

whistlerblackcomb.com/the-mountain/winter-ra…

Last year the Wizard Chair at the base of Blackcomb Mountain was closed from April 22-27. Access on Blackcomb Mountain was via the Excalibur Gondola from the base of Whistler Mountain.

You may find staying in the Village more convenient to access the Excalibur Gondola for Blackcomb Mountain.

7 days of high performance skis, boots, poles start at $232 per person. It is cheaper to pre-book.

For complete packages you can either use a tour operator or book through on the official central reservations.

You will get some great deals on packages for the dates you are coming!

You should still be ok but it will be spring conditions and as this year has been sparse, I'm saying advanced spring conditions. The base will be slushy by afternoon, mid mountain ok so best bet is alpine.

Stay in the Village or Upper Village as it is all walkable...no need for a car or stay in Creekside and take the bus. Of you stay in Alpine, Brio etc a car may be a better bet.

For gear, for that long of a vacation I would haul my own.

Snow Bus, Perimeter. pacific coach lines, etc or limo can get you up there.

Lift operations for the end of April have not been released at this time. I would expect an update in early April. As mentioned above staying in the Upper Village or Village is all walkable. You can walk from the base of Blackcomb Mountain to base of Whistler Mountain in 5 minutes. -Marie

Yes - you will be able to access the Wizard and Solar Coaster chairlifts to sightsee on Blackcomb Mountain. Please note the Peak 2 Peak gondola will be closed at this time, reopening on May 24. - Marie

We come out for the WSSF for the last week of Whistler's operations almost every season. I would definitely recommend staying in the main village rather than the upper village at Blackcomb.

Chances are good that you won't be skiing top to bottom at that time at Blackcomb. Even if the ski out is open, it will be very heavy at the bottom so downloading on the gondola will likely be your best option. After a hard day of skiing up top, dealing with the heavy stuff at the bottom is a strain on the legs.

We occasionally walk over to the upper village for dinner at that time and it's very quiet. So you'll have more resources and things to do at your doorstep in the main village as well.
