Eagle watching

I have heard that there is a location near squamish that has allot of eagles. I might be in Whistler during the end or March and am wondering if that will be too late since the peak time is November through January?

Sabrina: Too late. I was in Brackendale last weekend to see the eagles...all kinds. The weather was horrible, lots of rain and wind. Nevertheless, you may be able to see one or two in the area, just follow the signs when you get outside of Squamish. Best time to view is early January.

Sounds like we might have been there at the same time, puff puff! Lots of em, but boy was it pouring rain!

It's only a few minutes off 99 to check and see if they're there, but don't expect much that late in the year.

Sabrina -

Keep your eyes open and your binoculars handy wherever you go - bald eagles nest in a number of places in SW BC, so you may see them almost anywhere. Just watch the evergreen trees for a flash of white. The head and tail feathers really stand out when they're sitting on a tree limb. When the birds are flying, the heads and tails may appear to be missing if there's any cloud cover.

Good luck.

1BCTraveler makes an excellent point.

In Vancouver, for example, you see bald eagles year round, as long as you know where to look. They're generally perched atop old snags along the coast - the tall tree trunks that lack a lot of foliage.
