The best time for whales in this area is mid July to early September. We've visited several times in early to mid August and not been disappointed.

You probably know that the lower Buy of Fundy has a very rich marine ecosystem and is the probably the best place anywhere to see the endangered Northern Right Whale. There are boat tours from the mainland but you might want to consider planning a two oe three night stay on Grand Manan Island which is close to St. Andrews and offers better chances to see Rights.

Also found in this area are Fin, Minke and Humpback Whales, Harbor Poepoise and Atlantic White-sided Dolphins.

Mid July to early Sept is the best time for right whales. The fins & minkes are around a little earlier. You might see harbour porpoise all summer. Dolphins are more usually seen farther offshore than porpoise.

Lobster season depends on the area of the bay. For the Grand Manan area, the season opens the 2nd week of November; the inshore fishery winds down at the end of Dec. but the offshore boats continue to fish through the winter in the middle of the bay. Inshore lobstering starts again in the spring & finishes at the end of June. (that doesn't mean you can't get lobster at a restaurant outside those times!)

Hi Mexbound

The usual best time for whale watching in the Bay of Fundy off the shores of beautiful Campobello Island is during the month of AUGUST.

Note that all the whale boats congregate together in the same areas in the Bay and work together when the whales are spotted in keeping with regulations of course.

These are the most common sightings

Humpback (clown of the sea)

Right Whale (endangered species and most often seen off Grand Manan Island)

This year in early July, we have had sightings of the large finback already so it may promise to be a great year for watching whales. There is nothing more exciting than going out in an average length boat of about 37 + feet and watching a finback who averages up to sixty feet play off the stern. Make sure to bring your camera. We have some excellent shots on our website for your enjoyment.

Also, East Quoddy Lighthouse is one of the best land based whale watching spots in the area. The other two in our area being the West Quoddy Lighthouse area in Lubec, Maine just across the FDR International Bridge which spans Campobello and Lubec, Maine. As well Liberty Point often provides a wonderful show of whales off the point which is situated in the Roosevelt Campobello International Park, jointly owned by the Americans and Canadians. Liberty Point has two decks and is a spectacular place to visit.

Then hit adventures

We have two whale watch providers who leave from the island. Both are excellent.

Island Cruises Whale Watch

Captain Riddle's Whale Watch

No matter where you stay along the Bay of Fundy, or which island you visit, all provide spectacular trips out to see the whales.
