New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada

We will tour New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Some of the places on the list are St. John and St Andrews and the Bay of Fundy area. We will spend some time in the Cape Breton area, which sounds beautiful. What else should we not miss in N. Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We are thinking 14 days should do it, but can add more time if y'all come up with some winning locations.

Thanks for the help!

We will be in Canada from August 9th on. We haven't decided how many days to allow, but we are thinking that 14 or 15 days should do it. We will spend 3 days in Quebec before travelling on. We hope to do some whale watching either around Cape Breton or from St. John. From Cape Breton we will drive the southeast road stopping along the way and finally taking the ferry across from Digby to St John and driving toward Portland, Maine.

What should we absolutely not miss? Any hotels or restaurants that you recommend? Any shared knowledge will be appreciated.

Thanks!!

You have lots of time with 14 days , so plan to head to Cape Breton first as that will be your farthest destination, and allow at least 2-3 nights on the Island. . A whale watch takes at least 2 hours.

You might as well, have a side trip onto PEI as an option, as you can do that and only spend 1 night, a bit of driving for one of those days.

It all depends on what you want to do. You can leapfrog once in NB and on mainland Nova Scotia, but Cape Breton is a lot of loops and little cross country shortcuts .

Since you're in the area, you might also consider driving over to Prince Edward Island. You could take the bridge over from New Brunswick and then hop on the ferry to Nova Scotia.

Cape Breton is an amazing area. The geography is truly amazing. And the people there are so warm and friendly. In fact, you should be warned about those people on Cape Breton: they will make you feel so welcomed that you might not ever want to leave.

Don't forget to visit Louisbourg.

what is your overall trip.

leave Florida and then ? I see you have Quebec on the list as well, so where does that fit into the 14 days?

Thanks for asking.

We will fly from Florida to Portland, Maine on Aug.9. We will get to Quebec the next day and stay 3 nights. Then we will recross the river, drive up to Riviere du-Loup, and then south, to overnight in Fredericton, having stopped at Grand Falls along the way. Next day, drive to the Fundy National Park, up through Hopewell Cape and overnight in Moncton. Next we head to Cape Breton National Park and spend 2 nights there, hopefully do some whaling in Cheticamp. We may go to Ingonish first, to the Keltic Lodge and do Cheticamp second. We haven't decided yet. Then down the east (or west) coast of Cape Breton, taking the coastal road to Halifax for an over night. Then crossing the peninsula to over night in Digby inover to catch the ferry to St John the next morning.

Do you think Kejimikujik National Park is worth a stop? I'm thinking "no" because we will seen the other parks (including Acadia, I think). Also, it sounded pretty rough.

From St John, we will see the sights along the way and spend another night, maybe in Bar Harbour, and make our way back to Portland. Over night there, and catch a plane home the next day.

Sounds like a great trip! We are hoping 14, 15 days should do it. We usually move pretty quickly, but don't want to feel rushed.

Any additions or subtractions, advice, lodging and dining suggestions are gratefully accepted.

Thanks so much.

You might also want to try the Shediac area. the beach there is one of the best in Canada.

We stayed at a place called Gaudet Motel, nice clean/new rooms.

Keji is very much a wilderness park, not one you drive around in a lot . See if you can get a map of that park.

What are your dates for Cape Breton ???

In NB, check out the covered bridge in Hartland, the falls at Grand Falls and a restored 1800's place called "Kings Landing".
