Best driving route Maine to NS

We plan to drive straight through New Brunswick to Nova Scotia from Maine. This will be on a Saturday morning in July. We are trying to decide on the best route and border crossing area. What can we expect as far as traffic, delays, etc on the Maine Turnpike into NB in Houlton vs Bangor via rte 9 to the border and through NB? I estimate getting to the border approx noon.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I've been watching border crossing times at the various crossings at Calais-Saint Stephen and they've been very short for all the crossings there. That's the quickest route to NS from Portland and Bangor, via Highway 9 through that crossing, then via the new Canadian Highway 1 through Saint John.

You can check all the border crossing times into Canada at any point in time using this website: www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/bwt-taf/menu-eng.html

Rarely is there much traffic through New Brunswick unless there is an accident or in-climate weather....

Helpful info, thanks. Are the various crossings at Calais well marked from rt 9?
