If you enjoy Indian Cuisine, definitely go to India Gate, the food is awesome!

If local food means Indian, I agree India gate is great, but I am thinking the op means local flavor? Can't beat bacalau for a high end meal, and the Duke of Duckworth is a great local hangout with awesome local pub food. This is also the pub in The Republic of Doyle. Love their fish and chips... Back home for a aweek next month... Yay!!!!

Every time I return to St. John's I go to Get Stuffed on Duckworth. We have friends who live there who go there often. Also Gypsy Tea Room. Those are two suggestions for 'nicer' meals. I know locals who like a good steak who love the Keg located on the waterfront. For take out, I live in Montreal but grew up in Newfoundland, and my guilty pleasure is Mary Brown's taters and gravy - I miss that, I cannot get that in Montreal!
