Our Thanksgiving is in early Oct., so you won't find much going on here during your Thanksgiving. At the end of Nov. in NS most attractions outside Halifax will be closed for the season. However, you could have a good time in Halifax, and for that you won't need a rental car. The weather won't be the greatest (see: destination-ns.com/content/weatherhistory.asp ) but that won't matter much if you stay in the city. It really depends on what you want to do/see.

I believe that the last weekend in November Lunenburg has its Christmas festival. Plus, there are a lot of Christmas Craft Fairs inlittle towns throughout the province.

Yes, lots of stuff is shut down. But lodging and some restaurants are still open, as are shops, but usually only on the weekends up until Christmas.

Do check out www.novascotia.com for activities that are going on at that time of the year. The really good news is that rates at inns and B&Bs are usually very cheap at that time of the year.
