10 Day trip to NS & PEI - Please help with Itinerary

Hello,

My husband and I are taking a 10 day trip to NS & PEI in August 26th to September 5th and are looking for some suggestions with regards to our itinerary planning, b&bs to stay in, activities and places to eat. We are in our late 20s and like to explore. We would like to do some whale watching and wouldn't mind trying some sea kyaking and some short but scenic hikes with some good spots to stop and take some photos.

Here is the tentative itinerary:

Arrive in Halifax 11:15pm Friday night

Day 1 (Saturday) – Day in Halifax

Day 2 (Sunday) – Drive 1 ½ hours to Lunenburg

• On the way stop at Peggy’s cove/Mahone Bay for Lunch/Arrive in Lunenburg in the evening

• Stay the night in Lunenburg

Day 3 (Monday) – Drive 5 hrs(?) from Lunenburg to Charlottetown PEI (driving day)

• Stay night in Charlottetown

Day 4 (Tuesday) - Spend the Day in Charlottetown

• Stay night in Charlottetown

Day 5 (Wednesday) – Drive 4 ½ hrs from Charlottetown to Baddevk, NS

- stop in Montague to Seal Watch

- stay in Baddek overnight

Day 6 (Thursday) - Drive Cabot Trail (Baddek to Cape North)

- stop in Cheticamp to explore

- hike the skyline loop

- stop in pleasant bay to whale watch

- stay overnight around Cape North area

Day 7 ( Friday) - Drive Cabot Trail (Cape North back to Baddeck)

- stop in Ingonish

- stay the night in Baddeck

Day 8 - open the suggestions tor stops/activities on way back to Halifax - driving along south shore

Day 9 - open the suggestions tor stops/activities on way back to Halifax - driving along south shore

- arrive & spend night in Halifax

Day 10 - Fly out of Halifax at 10:30am

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Definitely could include Advocate Harbour www.capechignecto.net/overview/index.htm and the Cape Chignecto area on your tour on Day 8 and 9. You can enjoy the Bay of Fundy and all its beauty, as well as kayak seakayakingnovascotia.com/advocatekayakadven… and hike. You can also dine at Wild Caraway, http://www.wildcaraway.com/Home.html one of Nova Scotia's wonderful restaurants.

I think for days 8 and 9 you mean what we call the Eastern Shore (mostly route 7)? This is gorgeous, but you may not have time for this and for Advocate and area.

Hello - Sorry about that, I did mean Eastern Shore. Do you think there would be time to stop in Advocate Harbour for some sea kayaking? If so, when would make the most sense to stop there timing wise, between Lunenburg & Charlottetown PEI, OR from Baddeck on the way back to Halifax. A little bit out of the way in both cases.

Thanks for the help!

If we changed things around to include Advocate Harbour - it could look like this. Does this sound better?

Arrive in Halifax 11:15pm Friday night

Day 1 – Spend morning in Halifax

Drive from Halifax to Advocate Harbour (3 hours)

Spend night in advocate harbour

Day 2 – Day in Advocate Harbour

- Sea kayaking with Nova Tours from Advocate Harbour

Day 3 – Drive from Advocate Harbour, NS to Charlottetown, PEI (3 ½ hours)

Day 4 – Day in Charlottetown

Day 5 – Drive from Charlottetown PEI to Baddeck, NS (4 ½ hrs)

- Stop in Montague to Seal Watch

Day 6 - Drive Cabot Trail (Baddek to Cape North)

- Stop in Cheticamp

- Hike the Skyline Loop

- Stop in Pleasant Bay to Whale Watch

Day 7 – Drive Cabot Trail from Cape North back to Baddek

- Drive out to Meat Cove

- Stop in Ingonish

Day 8 – Drive from Baddeck to Halifax (4 hrs)

- Spend afternoon and evening exploring Halifax

Day 9 – Day trip to Peggy s Cove and Lunenburg (1 ½ hrs to Lunenburg – 1 way)

Day 10 – Fly back to Toronto at 10:30am

Thanks!

That is workable.

There are very few places to stay in the Advocate Harbour area. Make your reservation right away.

I hope you don't plan to spend your PEI time in Charlottetown. The pastoral scenery and beaches are the main attractions to me. Drive to Cavendish via Stanley Bridge and go along the North Shore through the park at least to Brackley. North Rustico and New Glasgow are scenic spots.

You might consider skipping the seal watching in Montague which is out of your way. If you go whale watching in Cape Breton, you may see seals on the rocks during your trip.

Your plans maybe set now. Anyway I would suggest to include the Eastern Shore and kayaking from Tangier. You can time the kayaking as you want because you do not depend on the tides here. This is a very reputable company: www.coastaladventures.com/daytours.html The Eastern Shore is beautiful and has a lot of attractions like various museums and beautiful scenery.
