I sure did! I can perhaps see the owner's frustrations but this gag order is just as bad as the opposite approach from establishments which "help" their satisfied customers make their first post on TA.

I just looked at the reviews and had to go back three pages to see the first of the poor ones so many visitors have been more than pleased. The poor reviews do seem to have a few common themes; maintenance issues, poor food, especially breakfasts, and not the friendliest management.

This current approach by management will not help their reputation one bit.

They might have thought they were doing themselves a favor by having that article in the paper, but it may backfire. Hopefully prospective customers will read the forums and click on the reviews page for the Trout Point Lodge and see that their right to comment on or review a lodging will be taken from them if they stay there.

Is this even legal in Nova Scotia?

I'm no lawyer but believe its probably like this. Nothing illegal about getting people to sign the waiver but its unenforeable legally.

Yes Blondie, that has been a pet peeve of mine since I first joined Trip advisor, people who come on this site to sway travellers to their own area for their own gain.....

"Come visit here! It's awesome and you shouldn't miss it!!! (and I happen to own one of the only places in town to stay)..."

Altho this is unfair to many honest posters, one thing I'm always wary of is a first time poster who advises a place is the greatest thing on earth or one who advises a place is pure hell. Even more so when this first time poster is saying the eact opposite of what other posters say.

Blondie is this the sort of thing you were speaking of?

Hard to believe this stuff happens , looks like someone other than Trout Point was trying to fabricate reviews and manipulate the popularity index, imagine that!

I assume that means if you go there and just take some holiday snaps you're not allowed to share them with family and friends on flickr, facebook or whatever?

Who knows? I guess you would actually have to see the waiver to see what riduculous restrictions they have in place.

What I find amazing is that out of 75 reviews, 55 are rated as excellent and only 14 are either poor or terrible.

As a traveller, I read all the reviews, sort them out and make my own opinion as to whether or not I want to stay at a place. Having them place some restrictions on my freedom to voice an opinion on my stay makes me very wary of staying there.
