Beginning to plan one week vacation in Nova Scotia next summer. I wish we had several weeks, but unfortunately we do not. We want scenery, short hikes, nature, quaint seaside villages, a bit of celtic culture and a bit of Halifax. Not interested in museums or history on this trip.
What I have thus far, beginning in Halifax (have not yet figured out if we will fly into Halifax or drive from Philadelphia.)
Day 1. Drive from Halifax to Mabou. Listen to Celtic music at Red Shoe Pub. Spend night in Mabou.
Day 2. Stops in Inverness and Cheticamp. Drive Cabot Trail. Do Skyline Trail. Spend night in Cape North or Dingwall.
Day3.. Continue driving east side of Cabot Trail. Spend night in Baddeck (if not doing fortress, does it make sense to skip Sydney? Anything to do/see in Baddeck?)
Day 4. Drive to Advocate Harbor in Bay of Funday. (Is this too far for one day or should we spend night in Pictou? Places to stop along the way?) Spend night in Advocate Harbor.
Day 5. Advocate Harbor area. See Cape d'or, Five Islands (anything other not-to-miss spots?) Drive to Halifax. Spend night in Halifax.
Day 6. Explore Halifax. Spend night in Halifax.
Day 7. Day trip to Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg. Spend night in Halifax.
Anything else we should not miss. Also suggestions for reasonably priced lodging (not b & b's.)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
