1 week trip to Nova Scotia. What not to miss?

We are a family of 5 adults planning a 1 week vacation in August, flying in and out of Halifax.

One week was all we could fit in as a group.

We don't want to miss the Peggy's Cove and the Cabot Trail, but the Bay of Fundy also

looks like a must see. Any advice for a possible itinerary that can fit all of this in?

How many nights will you have? When do you land and take off?

Here is a very rough map of a possible route. Notice the driving times. Then add a fair bit more for stopping, traffic, construction, meals, etc.

Check www.nova scotia.com

I would allow 3 nights in Cape Breton You could head there from the airport depending on what time your flight arrives. www.cbisland.com

Then perhaps 2 nights in Halifax & do a day trip to Peggy's Cove.

www.destinationhalifax.com

And 2 nights in the Wolfville area which is only aprox an hour drive from Halifax.

www.wolfville.ca/experiencing-wolfville.html

From there a 15 min drive will take you to the Bay of Fundy shore. This is one of the better places to view the tide difference.

www.hallsharbour.com

You could do a day trip here from Halifax, but depending on the tide times that day,you might not be able to observe both the high & low tides. Also, it would only take you slightly over an hour highway driving to reach the airport from Wolfville on your day of departure.

It depends on what you like to see and do, but this itinerary/route may work for with with a minor tweak.

We have 8 nights. Arriving in Halifax in the morning, and departing Halifax in the evening of the last day. Not sure if it's realistic to also get in a day in PEI.

I just got back from 4 nights in Lunenburg as a home base for day trips. I traveled with 2 other middle aged friends. We like scenery, driving, a little adventure but not real athletic.

Our favorite parts of the trip:

Explore Lunenburg itself. Start your day with the 1 hr walking tour. It is a great overview of this adorable town and provided us a wealth of ideas re museums/restaurants/shops we wanted to visit during the rest of the day. The distillery (and some tasting) counteracted any sore feet :) Try the Lobster Mac at the Salt Shaker Deli for lunch!

The Ovens Natural Park. Take the self guided, easy hike to the various caves/viewing spots. (Get the brochure). Beautiful, not to be missed.

Peggy's Cove of course. Consider one of the boat tours. We took the Puffins and Seals tour. The tour was early in the morning which turned out to be a good thing because the Cove was much quieter and enjoyable before the tourists descended.

Blue Rocks provided some of our favorite photo opportunities. Very scenic and peaceful.

Hope you get to try at least one of these and enjoy it as much as we did.
