places to stay

where is a good place to spend one night between Tiverton where we will be doing a whale watching trip in the afternoon and then driving toward Middleton and down to Luenburg the next day. Was wondering about Digby or Annapolis Royal or Middleton. So we just need one night and nothing fancy since it's just one night on our way unless there is something fantastic to see before we get to Luenburg. Thanks. J Haseltine

You can drive from Annapolis Royal to Lunenburg using Highway 8 to Liverpool, a distance of 115 km or 71 miles. From Liverpool, Lunenburg is only 69 km or 43 miles.

Highway 8 is also known as the Kejimkujik scenic drive, taking you past Kejimkukik National Park nova-scotia-vacation-guide.com/… which you may want to visit for a few hours on your way to Lunenburg.

No, Highway 101 is the Transcanada highway that runs from Yarmouth, through the Annapolis Valley and into Halifax. Highway 8 is a secondary road that crosses from Annapolis Royal to Liverpool.

Picture a tree....The transcanada highway would be the trunk of the tree, with main limbs like highways 101, 102, 103, and 104. Off the large limbs would be the smaller branches that would cover more areas, in a general sense. That would be the secondary roads we are referring to, like Highway 8, and Highway 10. These secondary roads are quite often heavily used by transport or logging trucks as they carry heavy loads across Nova Scota, and that's why a lot of times we comment on what poor shape they may be in, especially this time of year, with potholes, etc.

I took Rte 12 across from Kentville a couple of weeks ago & the road was fine. It's about an hr's drive & if you wish to stop on the way, there's a working farm museum about halfway.

Even if you don't want to take the time for a tour, they have a gift shop there.

Instead of turning onto Hwy 103, I usually continue to Rte 3 & follow the shore through Mahone Bay to Lunenburg. It's a lovely drive & there's a great restaurant with homemade food on the left about 10 mins after you turn .

I can't remember the name but it's at Western Shore overlooking the water.

Mahone Bay is a lovely small town that is also worth exploring.

We are driving from Annapolis Royal cutting down through and want to see Luenburg and Peggy's Cove before we drive on to Halifax. Can we see both places in a day, spend the night and drive on to Halifax the next day or should we spend the night in either Luenburg or Peggy's Cove touring only one of these areas and then see the other one the next before before we drive on to Halifax. Just wonder about the timeing. Thanks.
