Should I stay on 95 through Maine or should I cut off early and go through Calais?
Stay on 95
The first response was wrong. You should get off the I-95 early and cross the border at Calais. It saves quite a few miles.
Can some one break this tie please?
If you visit cape breton again, check out
We stayed there last year and loved it.
Go one way on your trip out, the other on the way back. The southern route does save considerable miles, but the time isn't really much different. St. John is a nice place to stop for a break. Visit the martello tower there. My husband and I thought that quick stop was well worth it. Either way, between Bangor and the border, there really isn't much there.
I prefer the I-95 as it is quite a bit faster. The exceptions would be in the wintertime, ie during snowy conditions. Also if you were driving an RV or towing a trailer I would recommend the I-95 as it is all divided highway, straighter and not as hilly.
