Suggestion on location for night

We will be traveling from Sydney to the cabot trail - trip planned for the end of Sept, first of Oct. We want to end up at Pictou for the ferry althought can go out on the ferry by early afternoon. Where would be a good location to end up that has plenty of evening activities and nice area to view - At first was going to go back to Baddeck but didn't know if that would be out of the way. Would like to check out the Red Shoe Pub - any other suggestions would be great. We are doing mainly scenic driving with stops along the way.

So it would depend upon which direction you take to drive the Cabot Trail. Coming from Sydney and ending up in Pictou I would go counter-clockwise and stay in the Mabou area.

Baddeck is a lovely little village with lots of tourist amenities and a ceilidh every night.

Mabou is much less developed and the Red Shoe is great for live entertainment, though you should check out what nights it is on.

map 1 Sydney going north on the trail and going through Mabou to Pictou. This route would miss Baddeck which would be a shame. The coast along the Bras D'Or Lakes is scenic. http://goo.gl/maps/RbtNh

map 2 As above but going down around the lake first: http://goo.gl/maps/9w9fj This would be my choice.

map 3 having you finish in Baddeck. You would miss Mabou and the Ceilidh Trail: http://goo.gl/maps/joSKK

You could do the route on map 3 in the opposite direction.
