Parade of Sails

Just got to Halifax today and will be here till Wednesday morning. Some had said that York Redoubt is the best place to see the Parade of Sails. I am hoping someone can help me with a few details. What time does the Parade of Sails start and how long does it last? If we need to get there early what time would be early enough.

We also plan to see the Maritime Museum and The Citadel while we are here and of course spend some time at the Harbour seeing the Tall Ships. If there are any other Must Sees in Halifax that we are missing I would love some advice.

Go to the waterfront ,there are lots of info booths there for the Tall Ships and they can give you directions for everything you want .

Must see?? Public gardens on Spring Garden Road. Titanic graves off of Windsor Street. Maybe Pier 21 if you had family who ever arrived in Halifax by ship . Take a ferry ride back and forth to what is called Woodside . Take the free FRED bus!!!

Most pubs have Keith's !!!

Keith's Brewery tour is pretty good.

The parade starts at noon.

If you are in Halifax hotel, leave your car. Parking is horrendous downtown. If on Dartmouth side use the ferry.

We went out to York Redoubt at about 11:00 a.m. and got a great spot to watch the tall ships come up. It was great We took a picnic and stayed out there till about 2:00. The day was beautiful.

We went to the Citadel afterwards and stop by the Gardens as well.

Busy and beautiful day.

Glad you had a good view. For what it's worth all the advertisements mentioned the ships were turning at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth. There were probably 10,00 disappointed viewers when the ships made their turns about 1/2 km from the landing.

After all these years, they haven't learned to publish the route the ships are following. Here we have ships going to several ports over the next week or so , but we don't know the routes, at least I haven't been able to find any. Tourists in Cape Breton have heard the ships are going all along the coast from Halifax to Sydney , then around to Pictou and Pugwash, no one knows if they're not do that or some will cut through the Canso Causeway locks.

So if anyone knows the routes , that would be helpful.

If you go to the Tall Ships Nova Scotia website, and click on the tab “Ports and Events” you will have access to information about which ships will be in which communities on which dates.

As for the route that they are following, they are headed down the Eastern Shore to Port Hawkesbury, then Louisbourg, then to Sydney. Those that are going to Pugwash & Pictou would probably beat to windward (or motor) from Sydney back to the Causeway instead of around northern Cape Breton, wouldn’t they? With a prevalent southwest wind, that would make most sense.

yes, thanks, am aware of the ports and times, but I am trying to help people who have asked about seeing the ships as they travel along the coast . Last time they did that , it was a real blast for people travelling the Cabot Trail as a few ships did come in a bit closer to shore.

Talk about staycation, this is a great opportunity to help Nova Scotian too.
