Exploring Nova Scotia next year

Hello

I am planning a couple of weeks aug/ Sept time next year.

I am a gaelic speaker so would be interested in exploring the celtic side.

I thought we would fly to Halifax and take it from there........as im driving, so maybe quieter roads would be better.

Were would you suggest.

Thanks

Hi:

It is good you are planning so far ahead.

I'll just say a couple things now and once you have done some reading you can come back with more questions.

To start here is the main Nova Scotia website for visitors. this is full of information, including where to stay and driving information. You should send for a copy of the Doers and Dreamers guide: www.novascotia.com/en/home/default.aspx

Here is the link for recent Trip Reports. These can be very useful:

Being a Gaelic speaker you will of course want to spend most of your time in Cape Breton.

capebretoncafe.com/cape_breton_tourist_infor…

capebreton.worldweb.com/SightsAttractions/

You will find our roads fairly quiet, even the Trans Canada Highway. To avoid too much of this, you could get to Cape Breton by driving along the Eastern Shore. This is a beautiful drive but it is much slower.

Maryann has given you most of what you need to get started planning but wanted to add the Gaelic College in St Ann's CB

http://www.gaeliccollege.edu/

There is a wonderful Inn the Chanterelle nearby with fabulous food if you wanted to spend a few days or there are many B&B's in the area it is only about 1/2hr from Baddeck

http://www.chanterelleinn.com/

http://www.nsbedandbreakfast.com/

Have fun planning and do come back and ask questions once you get an idea of where you would like to go.

I'd start in Halifax (side trip to Peggy's Cove)- 3 nights

Lunenburg (stops in Chester and Mahone Bay) - 1 night

Brier Island (south of Digby) - 2 nights - whale watching

Annapolis Valley - 1 night

Pictou- 1 night

Cape Breton - Baddeck 2 nights

Cape Breton - Ingonish - 1 night

Cape Breton - Cheticamp - 1 night

Cape Breton - Margaree Valley - 1 night

This is a rough plan but you'd get a great feel of the province by following something similar.
