Lobster

Will be in Halifax in Aug and was wondering where is the best place to get reasonably priced lobster dinner? It doesn't have to be fancy, just good.

A pub on Spring Garden Road, Your Fathers Moustache, does a nice Lobster dinner. Nothing fancy but they keep it inexpensive. Please be aware, you are subject to the price on the Market at the time. If lobster can be obtained by a restaurant realitively inexpensive, then they will pass that along to the consumer, but the opposite will hapopen also.

The most reasonable is Ryer's in Indian Harbour nr Peggy's Cove. they are a pound and ship all over the world, usually charge around $15-20 for 1.5-2lb lobster steamed to order with roll, butter etc picnic bench on fisherman's wharf also have mussels.

If you walk along the waterfront, you will see several places advertising lobster. You don't want fancy with lobster - plain boiled is great. You can also get it in supermarkets - some will cook it to order. If you have a car, then go to Ryer's as Lulu says.

Thanks Lulu. Not sure if we'll be able to make it to Peggy's Cove. Only going to be there 2 1/2 days.

The best and cheapest way to enjoy a bellyful of lobster is to buy it at the local grocery store, where they will steam it fresh on site for you. Pick up some nut crackers (for the claws) rolls and potato salad and coleslaw, find a picnic table and dig in.

The local grocery stores all have these HUGE fish tanks that have fresh live lobster in them. They are cheapy cheap. The Superstore chain will charge you to steam them, but Sobey's chain of stores will not charge you to steam them.

Where are you staying, and I'll tell you the closest place to pick them up.

But if you want to do it 'civilized', then Your Father's Moustache, or the Waterfront Warehouse will do you a nice lobster supper....

If you have a car and don't mind the drive, go to Hubbards to the The Shore Club. Google it. It's an institution.

At the other end of Barrington Street is a Superstore. #1075 Barrington Street. You can show up there and in 20 minutes they will have them steamed for you.

Or go to the Waterfront Warehouse and enjoy it prepared for you there. It's a lot more expensive, but the food is good there.

We will arrive Halifax from a cruise ship, is there any Sobey's or Superstore nearby that we can take a bus to?

The Superstore is 5 mins from Cruise Dock, you should be able to see it. Walk around the large Westin Hotel and there you are.
