This morning in the Toronto Star.

Canadian citizens travelling to the United States by land or water:

As of January 31,2008 if you travel to the U.S. by land or water, a U.S. law will require you to present:

- a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's licence AND

- a birth certificate or a citizenship card OR

- a valid passport.

Canadian citizens flying to or through the U.S. must present a valid passport.

I think this was in every paper this morning. I guess the only thing different is that they will now insist on the 2 ID's, where they might have accepted one right now.

Also be aware that your name and birthdate are entered into a computer data base, and if you have a criminal record you will denied entry. A horror story this week at the Blue Water Bridge, where an innocent family were stopped in their car, surounded by armed police with guns drawn, and the parents cuffed in front of the kids. The guy had a fairly common name and the same birthdate as another person who has a criminal record. Even though the mis-identification was acknowledged, they were still turned back, and warned not to try and enter the country again.
