Niagara falls to Sarnia ?interesting places to break journey

We will be travelling from N.falls to Sarnia on a tuesday in early October and would like to break journey twice.

We enjoy scenic places, historical interest, unusual things. We are reasonably fit but not serious hikers.

The waterfalls of Hamilton look interesting but was wondering if there were any other nice places to stop for a while and visit en route.

Thanks

Hi BMS1970,

Welcome to the ONTARIO TRAVEL FORUM.

Not sure if you've planned this as extra time into your Niagara Falls visit... but the whole Niagara Region (the peninsula that lies between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario) is certainly worth a visit... one could easily spend a day or two exploring that part of the Province.

Historic Niagara-on-the-Lake (War of 1812 Sites - Terminus on the Underground Railway) - Beautiful Setting on Lake Ontario - Award Winning Dining, Boutique Hotels, Country Inns, B&Bs and Spas - Shaw Festival - Unique Shopping - Art Galleries - Antique Shops - Wine Country - Giant Staircase Locks on the Welland Canal... etc

For more info on NOTL and the rest of the Niagara Region be sure to check out the NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE TRAVEL PAGES and TRAVEL FORUM here on TA.

Cheers!

When you say "break" your journey, I assume you just mean stops rather than overnight stays?

And if you have seen a good deal of the Niagara region already with visiting the Falls then I would suggest the scenic route via

Elora, Stratford and even a bit north to Bayfield if you wanted to make it a full day. Driving time (alone) for that route is close to 5 hrs OR the Elora, Stratford, St. Marys and Sarnia route would be a bit over 4 hrs.

No serious hikes involved but lots to stroll around and see.....and the countryside will be gorgeous with fall colours that time of year.

Hope that helps. :)
