Planning Summer 2008 - Oodles of Questions!

The details:

Planning to go to the Falls mid-June 2008. It will be a multi family adventure. My husband's brothers & sister's families totaling

6 - 8 adults & 7 - 10 kids (ages 11, 12, 14, 16,17 & 18). We are flying from Atlanta to Va Beach to meet up w/ 2 more families.

Driving to Baltimore & NYC to add 2 more to the tally. We will be caravaning from NYC to the Falls.

The questions:

* Will 3 days & 2 nights be enough?

* I'm assuming that a Tues (6/17) - Thur (6/19) stay would be

better for price & crowds. Am I correct?

* I really like the idea of Embassy Suites for the free breakfast

with that many people, but I see that fallsdudes recommends

Hilton, Reniss, & Fallsview Casino. For a large group which is

the better choice?

* At these prices wouldn't 1 or 2 suites be a better choice

than 3 - 5 rooms? I really liked the idea of the family suite that

sleeps 9 (which hotel was that again?) We are Hhonors Silver

VIP would that get us better upgrades?

* Make reservations ASAP or last minute? As of yesterday the

Embassy site showed no rooms available. Are they already

booked up?

* Is there a tour that offers the history of the slave underground

* I remember that on the TODAY show a rep said that the

American Falls are to be coffer damed next summer, but I can't

find any info online that refers to that. Is it true & does anyone

have details?

* How many people do you need to quailify for a group discount?

* Any other suggestions to make this a REALATIVE happy trip?

Thanking in advance for any & all help. I've spent 2 days reading the forum & have learned so much. Please teach me more. I'm not afraid of the planning (I actually love it), I just want everyone to have fun & enjoy their trip. - Yeh I know teenagers are coming & NO ONE can make them happy when they are with their parents! LOL!

Hi Joann, Your trip starts right at the start of our high season, however you are correct that weekday hotel rates are less than weekends(weather depending) As far as a hotel I would shop around, most hotels have free breakfast now, what to check for is WHAT is OFFERED with the free breakfast and WHAT time is the free breakfast being served FROM and TILL.

As for the American Falls being damned, I know that it was done in the mid 60's, but I haven't heard anything like that being done again.

One last tip: You may want to take a close look at hotels that offer package plans. Off the top of my head I know that Travelodge at the Falls offer a ton of different packages.

I too would suggest you check yout many different hotels. I'm not sure what you plan on spending but there is a wide range of pricing.

One suggestion for something to do is to go and see the show Oh Canada, Eh? It is on Lundy's lane and you will probably be able to get a group rate with that many people. It is a dinner show and willgive you a very funny history of Canada. They do have a website but I'm not sure what it is off hand. Just google Oh, Canada, Eh - Niagara.

Hope you have a wonderful time next year.

keep looking daily for the prices to drop......they will at one point.

the embassy suites has a presidential suite that might be cheaper if you all chip in for the two nights.....

Its a great hotel, never stayed in that suite tho......I'm alos from Brampton...and go to the falls twice a year.

Thank you for your input.

Anyone else have any suggestion for us.

We've added another family of 3 to the count.

I'm also finding a lot of hotel online sites are showing

no rooms availible. I'm guessing that they might not be taking reservations this far out.

I've put a request on the event planner site that is supposed to

have hotels make bids for groups. Again most (8 out of 11)

hotels say they have no rooms availible. If that means that they are really sold out almost a year out I'm in big trouble.

Please any more info for us/me would be so greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,

Joann, I've had the same problem in the past, they are not sold out, just haven't updated thier websites for the following year yet.....You could also go and call the 1-800 #'s that the hotels give out....to give you an idea on costs and such....

Some hotels just haven't updated their websites to allow 2008 bookings(they need to soon!) I found the Courtyard was the same. You couldn't put in any year but 2007
