Indifferent Opinions of the Falls

Just wondering what the consensus is here on Niagra Falls...

Some have said that it really is not a must see and is not that big really.

Others have said it was the highlight of their trip.

I plan to do an overnight or 1 day stay at Niagra in Septmeber..

wife, 9yo girl and I.

Niagara Falls is a world class attraction and voted one of Canada's 7 wonders.

The natural beauty of the falls and Niagara Parks system is unrivaled.

Add to the spectacular natural surroundings the glitz and glitter of our Casino's; Clifton Hill family attractions, our fun museums and Historical museums and area Forts and you have a wonderful Canadian package.

It is a must see and even though I've lived here all my 57 years; I still drive through the park and visit the falls many times a year.

I'm not one to enjoy Clifton Hill, the casino or any of the 'glitz' of the Falls, but I still love seeing Niagara Falls, day and night.

With a 9 yr old you could easily do an overnight and 1-2 days and really enjoy yourselves, especially if you're already nearby.

But from your other posts I see this would be a one day trip from NYC in which case I would say No, don't bother. You've got a pretty busy trip already.

You can do the Falls when you come back and do your coast to coast Canadian tour. ;)

IMO.....Niagara Falls is a must see when visiting Southern Ontario...

the Thunder of the Falls is Amazing....

looking at the Falls at night, all lit up is so pretty....

as the previous poster said, The Museums are certainly very informative about the region, and the Fort holds alot of history.

If you do decide to spend a night, try to stay when the Fireworks are being held....

I guess it depends on the context.

If you're visiting Southern Ontario (ie: Toronto), then it's a must see.

If you're visiting western Canada, I don't think it's worth paying the $350-$500 flight and going the 4 hour flight out of your way to see it.

If you're going to Niagara Falls anticipating "the wilds of Canada" (ie: wilderness, forests, mountains, etc) you'll be sorely disappointed.

But if you take it for what it is and realize the natural attraction itself is spectacular, but it's surrounded by theme park-like attractions, all the better.
