We just returned from a great trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls! The success of the trip was mainly to do with this forum! All of the information was so helpful! So, here is our day by day report:
We got in around 3pm from Toronto. We checked into the Country Inn and Suites and then walked down Clifton Hill and then got to see the falls for the first time. It was truly breathtaking! We then went and spent money at Clifton Hill. First stop, the Guiness Book of World Records which we liked but for my youngest (4 yrs old) it was a lot of reading. Next off to the Lego museum. It's basicallly one room with a huge display of legos. My kids are lego fanatics so they loved it. And lastly to the Mystery maze which the kids had so much fun they wanted to do it again! You don't get a lot of "bang for your buck" at these attractions but the kids loved them! We went to Swiss Chalet for dinner which was fun for the kids because they have a Nickelodeon menu. My husband and I are just shocked at how much it costs to eat in Canada. I am sure we would have spent a lot more if we would have gone to one of the restaurants on Clifton Hill. After dinner we parked by the falls (which when open would have cost us $12) and got some great pictures. You really can get up close and the sound is unbelievable! We then crossed the border (which did not take any time) and saw the falls from this side. We crossed back over and I had to convince my husband that they lit up the falls at night (something I learned here). When we first came up they were not lit up but right at 8:30 they came on and it was so beautiful. A bunch of cars (including us) pulled over illegally and took some fantastic pictures of the falls in every color from red to purple to blue.
We heard on the weather report that it was supposed to rain later so we wanted to get all the outside down right away. We went to Journey behind the falls first. I was not trmendously impressed but it was cool to see and there was a great lookout tower (the upper was not open) to get some more great shots. We then drove about 5 miles to the Aero whirlpool car which the kids LOVED. No fear for them! The whirlpool was not as strong as it is in the summer months but it was still fun to go across the river! When then went back to Clifton Hill and went to Funland (kids loved it) and Haunted House (just the right amout of scary--no live actors at this one) Went back to pool. relaxed and kids went for a swim. My youngest loved the pool because it truly had a not so deep end and he could actually walk in it with his head out of the water. By now, it has started to rain so we decided to go to the Greg Frewin Show. We splurged on good seats because of the kids but decided not to have dinner there. We saved some money by ordering in Pizza. The show was great (at times wonderfully cheesy) and we were all impressed (especially my husband which is hard to do at times!) The kids got there picture taken with the tiger and Greg signed it for them! It was a great last night in Niagara!
The next morning we left Niagara with snow falling. We got lucky to have some great weather the first day and a half!
We will defintely come back in a couple of years when the weather is warmer! Sorry this is so long!!
