I personally think the Canadian side has more to offer. Great places to take the kids. Check out all of the reviews on here for Hotels on both sides. I would reccomend going to the US side and go to thier park by the falls.

Stayed at the ramada fallsview on the canadian side it was worth it but with kids you would be better off staying on the main drag a sort of disneyland effect.. arcades, and lots of stuff to do within walking distance for kids. We traveled from New York to Coopertown then on to Niagara. Coopertown was great for my husband he spent several hours in the museum, I on the otherhand walked the town. They have a beautiful lake and other interesting sites. We were amazed at the back roads you have to take to get there. Sort of in the middle of nowhere, Lots of cute towns on the way but kids might not enjoy mostly old structures ect. We did not end up staying in Coopertown decided we had seen most of it and moved on towards Niagara.

Thanks all for the comments, looking at the hotels in Canada. Do you recommend flying into Canada or what city is near Niagara Falls?

the nearest big city is Toronto or Pearson International airport. It is about a 1.5 hour drive to niagara falls.....the car rentals are located at the airport. Let us know what kind of hotel you are looking for. You best bet is to book something now and then wait and see if the rates go down. you can always call the hotel with the cheaper rates and have them adjust them for you.

I am looking for a hotel that is safe, clean, maybe some place to eat in the hotel or near by. Not looking for fancy, just reasonably priced. A hotel/motel that has a too Niagara Falls. Not too sure if we are renting a car or not. I was thinking of staying in the Buffalo area or maybe driving from Buffalo to Canada and staying near the falls for a couple of days. We are still not sure if we are flying straight into Canada or not.

try the courtyard for value, cleanliness , and they are extreemly friendly. They have two room family suites. This is not a fallview hotel. From the upper floors you can see the lights at night and see the mist in the daytime. I like to listen to the falls when we are staying there. The two night packages come with an all u can eat buffet breakfast. I don't thin k they have missed one single breakfast item. The web-site is .......www.nfcourtyard.com

I believe you would save time by flying into Buffalo. Toronto is a very nice city, and if you wanted to visit Toronto, then fly there, but you will be much closer to the falls if you fly into Buffalo. Generally you will find the flights into Toronto will be more expensive, and customs will be more of a hassle than if you fly into the Buffalo airport. It is perhaps 30 -40 minutes right to the falls from the airport. You can usually cross the border very quickly at Fort Erie (at the Peace Bridge) then you can drive along the Niagara River right to the falls along the Niagara Parkway (I would recommend this route over the highway called the Queen Elizabeth Way). It is a nice scenic drive, and there is not very much traffic along the parkway. If you just want to get to the falls and skip the scenic route, you can take the highway from the airport to Niagara Falls on the US side and cross at the Rainbow Bridge which puts you right near the falls when you cross the border. I would highly recommend staying on the Canadian side since the view of the falls is nicer from that side. If you can, splurge on a fallsview room in one of the hotels like Embassy Suites, Oakes Inn or Fallsview Marriott. The views from their fallsview rooms is breathtaking - from these three hotels there is no obstruction - there are others like Renaissance Fallsview and the Hilton where it depends how high up you are - your view could be obstructed by the casino or other buildings. Check out the reviews for hotels in Niagara Falls Canada to help you decide. You can get quite good deals on the fallsview hotels in the off season (i.e. now and through the winter, but not at New Years). I have heard that the walk down to the falls on the US side is spectacular. Depends what time of the year you go - I do not think the walk is open in the winter since it is too icy. You can get package deals from the websites for these hotels with vouchers for meals, breakfast included etc. I hope this helps. Enjoy your trip!

Just keep in mind that if you're calling hotels now, or even more then a month before you arrive, they will not be able to tell you the USD rate, and if they do it might be inaccurate - the exchange rate changes daily. ^_^

I think that the flights will actually be cheaper into Buffalo, it is really easy to rent a car at the Buffalo airport. From there just like the poster said-take the Peace Bridge and drive down the Niagara Parkway. From the Peace Bridge if you look left you can get a beautiful view of the mouth of Lake Erie and the Buffalo Harbor. You can follow the river and drive right to the Falls. There are beautiful homes a lovely picnic areas along the way- a nice meander.

Stay in Canada-the kids will like it more, but do take the time to visit the American side-Goat Island-and Three sisters. Also I like the cave of the winds far better than Journey behind the Falls.

Don't miss the whirlpool jet boat rides. They are pricey but will be a highlight of your trip. If you catch the boat on the American side-it docks at a pretty good restaurant and it is right next door to a hot dog/chicken wing/ice cream joint.

If you have some time, why not take a couple of hours in Buffalo-expose the kids to the tattered remnants of the industrial revolution.
