Hilton Versus the Americana

We are traveling to the falls for Christmas and I was very excited about our reservation at the Hilton (planning on the bear factory and enjoying the package deal with breakfast, pool and the view). Some reviews I've seen indicate the view is not all that great. My last trip was at the Embassy Suites where the view was wonderful. Also, just recently discovered the Americana with full waterpark but not sure of the room quality. The children are 15, 14 and 10. We usually stay at an Embassy but chose the Hilton for the pool. Any feedback about the Hilton or Americana would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Americana: is about a 10 minute drive to Niagara Falls/Casino/location where the embassy/hilton is. It does have an indoor water park but it's boring after about half hour. There is a wave pool (maybe 1.5 metres deep in the deep end), two water slides, and a sauna. The rooms aren't gross, but they aren't anything spectacular.

Hilton: I can almost guarentee the view isn't as good as the Embassy/Marriott because of the Fallsview Casino/Oakes/Embassy being in the way. I've heard they have a three story waterslide, but I'm not sure if they have any other pool area fun. Haven't been in the rooms, so I don't know what they're like, but the Hilton is newer & closer to everything.

I'm not a big fan of the Americana but not the waterpark. It's really met for little children. In the off-season which is when you will be going all the slides are closed and the waves don't run in the pool and is really over priced $99 on a sunday. That how much the Hilton Cityview cost and your right at the falls not 2 miles awayy. When the Sheration opens there waterpark the Americana will go out of business. The rooms are very out of date and right right next to three strip clubs. The Hilton Fallsview is good if you can get a top floor but you have the Casino in between he falls. I would pick the Embassy over the Hilton all the Hilton have is a waterslide.

Yes, I would not recommend staying at the Americana at all. The Hilton is a nice hotel that had a lot of rooms with spectacular views until the new Fallsview Casino was built. If you stay in a room on one of the upper floors of the new building (as opposed to a room in the 15-story, former Days Inn Overlooking the Falls section), you should still have a pretty good view of the falls. If you want a room with a really good view of the falls, try the Marriott Fallsview. The Marriott has an indoor pool that your children would probably enjoy.

Once you get out Lundy's Lane to where the Americana is, you're talking about at least a 10-15 minute drive down to the falls area. There are a LOT of red lights. And the area out Lundy's Lane does have some "adult entertainment" venues. I've always wondered about the type of people lurking about the vicinity of those motels at say 3AM and what type of "activities" may be going on.

Great thanks to all who responded. What a beneficial site this is! We will avoid the Americana!! My teen got quite a chuckle out of the questionable entertainment in that area. So glad I checked here first. It looks like we are going to compromise our view somewhat in order to enjoy the pool facility at the Hilton. FYI - It seems the Marriot Fallsview is a favorite for many. Best of Holiday wishes to all and thanks again for the help!!

There's nothing really *wrong* with the Americana - yeah, there's a couple strip clubs down in that area, but you're not really going to be outside walking around touring that part of Niagara, anyways. Now if they were en route to something useful, I would be concerned, but they're not unless you're planning on visiting Thorld.

However, the Hilton is still the better of the two, with the exception of the water park at the Americana.

Nothing wrong with the Americana? It is by far the most over priced hotel with totally out to date rooms. Whwn you sit on the bed you sink right in. Very bad plubing and flies in the summer. My friend stay at the Americana to vist the Sundowner and saw some hookers and asking him if he wanted to get busy right in the Americana parking lot and did I methiod is really over priced.

we just got back from our second time staying a the Hilton......Perfect Hotel...The pool is nice , but I would reccomend water shoes, as the floor is quite slippery..The breakfast is all you can eat buffet, they never run out of anything...The dinner is expensive , but very good. You can see both falls from your room, the casino is in the middle of them.I just today booked again for march.. They had a clown walking around last friday night. One suggestion is to bring in your own munchies...and at breakfast , take some of the fresh fruit back to your room to snack on later.

Hope this helps

Hi WildAngel;

If you go to the Hilton web-site......there is a video on the top right corner of their homepage.....It shows the room, dining area and pool area.Also when we went last weekend, we did not like our first room, no problem they assigned us to another right away and said if we were still not happy, to call and they would change it yet again.2nd room was very nice.

Wow! Thanks so much. There are many, many terrible reviews on the internet for this particular Hilton. Sadly, it looked so beautiful in the pics (I have even reviewed candid review pics). I have been thinking of changing to the Marriot but my youngest was so excited about the pool. I heard that the food is awful and the rooms can sometimes be questionable. Happily, I have also seen, like yours, some positive reviews. Can you tell me what floor you ended up on?

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!
