Niagara, ON April 06 / "Mist" on schedule? / Frequent...

Hello! HNY to everybody! I will stay in Niagara Falls, ON for two days/three nights in mid of April 06. Will "Maid of the Mist" be on schedule then? / Will there be any problems with customs when we are crossing the border (I am from Germany) a few times during our stay?

Is US$ accepted everywhere on the CAN side?

There´s a parking rate of 18$ at our hotel (Renaissance Fallsview). Any free parking near the Hotel?

We would also like to visit Toronto on one day. Is there anything else to see except of the CN Tower?

Sorry for that many questions, but I have never been to the N.F.-Area and Canada before and don´t know anything about it except the Google Earth-View ;-)

kind regards

Sascha

About Toronto There is many things to there, (More than Niagara Falls.) Such as the Zoo, Science Centre, Bata Shoe Mesume (Shown on The Amazing Race), Sports. YOu could be there for a week and not have done all the things T.O has to offer. There are also a lot of plays and great shopping. THe Medevil TImes and many more things. YOu can park for free at the Fallsview Casino if you get a Players CArd. It is right across from the Renaissance. US money is accpted at most places. If I were you I would use a Credit Card, or get Canadian Money. SOme places rip you off on the Exchamge. The Maid of yjr Mist should be running it April. I hve no clue about the border.

Mid of the Mist -might- be opening. It usually opens May 24 weekend but sometimes earlier in the year if the weather is nice. No idea about the borders.

US money is accepted on the Canadian side in Niagara, but not past there. You'll need good old Canuck moola outside of Niagara.

No idea about T-dot.

Exchange your money into Canadian, but do it at a casino or bank. They are the only ones who will give you the fair rate

Thanks to all of your for your replies. You were very helpful.

How can I get this player card at the mentioned casino? Just walk in and ask for it? Or do I have to spend a specific amount?

Would appreciate if anyone could help me with the border questions. Don´t think that I am the only European who may crosses the border 2 to 3 times a day. Any problems with it? I am arriving at Buffalo, staying in Canada, go to the Skylon Tower at the U.S. side, visit Toronto.

To be honest, don´t really know. Furthermore are there any problems (insurance?) travelling to Canada with a US rental car?

Do I have to leave every food from my travel in the US before entering Canada (cans, cookies, chocolate....)

thanks/regards

Sascha

Its free to join the casino players club. Once you join, you don't even have to spend anything

The Skylon Tower is in Canada, not the US.

You can't bring food over the border.

Still no idea about the borders. Check out the Canadian/US government websites - they might have better information than a lot of the people on this forum just because the majority of them on here that reply a lot are from Canada or the US.

With rental cars, you'll need to check with the company that you're renting from about crossing borders. The contract you sign may not allow you to do so, or your insurance rates may be higher. Additionally, you may (and I'm not sure about this) have trouble getting over the border in a rental car that isn't allowed over the border.

PS: Why don't you fly right into Pearson airport in Toronto instead of flying into Buffalo and worrying about the border crossing?

I go to Buffalo because the single fare with Jetblue from JFK to BUF is only 92 USD. The Fare back to LGA (NYC) with US Airways is only 55 USD. NY-Toronto ticket fares are much higher. By the way, Toronto Airport is also more far away from Niagara Falls than Buffalo.

Finally it won´t make that difference. Would like to cross the border many times anyway and I won´t make a difference if I make the immigration process at Toronto Airport or at the Rainbow Bridge. What do you think?

Anyway, flights are booked.

Thanks for letting me know about the Skylon. Thought it is on US side.

But there is not really much to see on the US side, isn´t it?

You can bring some food across the border for personal consumption, just not citrus fruit.

So long as you have your passports and a good reason for crossing several times, you shouldn't have a problem.

No, there isn't much on the US side of the border, but they do have the Niagara Falls State Park that is right there and is beautiful. They also have the Niagara Aquarium which is little, but nice.
