Must-see/do attractions/tours??

Hi, we are coming into Niagara Falls in mid-April (got a GREAT rate at the Embassy Suites from Travelzoo - $96/night (US$) for a fallsview Jacuzzi Suite) and will have our kids with us - ages 7 and 4. We will be there for 3 days - 2 nights. In anyone's opinion, what are the two must-see must-do attractions that are appropriate for kids that age as well? Neither my husband or I have ever been to Niagara Falls, so we are completely clueless! Thanks in advance for any/all help and suggestions!

Hopefully the Maid of the Mist will be running...otherwise walking the parkway is a must. US side .....do three sisters island and the observation deck all in the Niagara Reservation State Park. Gorge walk or Spanish Aerocar are cool. Save an afternoon for Niagara on the Lake. Horse and carriage ride with the kids and a bit of window shopping and lunch. Take the kids to the Olde Angel Inn...they will get a kick out of the old fashioned atmosphere...good food too....

Hi mccarthys5

We also took advantage of the good deal at the Embassy Suites:)I am a bit concerned about the disclaimer attached to the Embassy;s web-site..."Prices may also be higher or lower depending on occupancy levels"..This is a very busy hotel....lets hope we get the above price:)

The restaurants are extremely higher in price, then in most places. the Keg does have a Childrens menu..a good one:)the Embassy comes with a free shuttle to most attractions...Do not use the valet parking....you can park about 3 minutes away at the casino for free , just get a players advantage card...the parking is $20.00CDN per night at the Embassy, not including tip! There is also a snack basket in each room, call ahead and ask for them to remove it before you arrive, its very expensive..We go to the local grocery store and pick up snacks to take with us back to the room.

Hope this helps a little bit:)

Thank you both for your input! I hope Maid of the Mist is running as well - that would be great.

I had read in a prior post about the parking at the casino, that is a great tip, well worth it to save the $20/day!

I hope the rate sticks or something close to it - my understanding was the disclaimer that they had on my confirmation that they e-mailed me - a statement they had about fluctuating exchange rates - if it is not exact, hopefully it will be close, give or take. It seems to be a great deal, the hotel looks really nice and close to the falls! We really like Embassy Suites, have stayed at quite a few since we had kids - it is great for the suite set-up and for breakfast in the a.m. - my kids are big breakfast eaters, so they literally fill up for the day and are pretty good till dinner time. I had planned on eating at the Keg one night - heard it was good - and don't you get a coupon or something with your stay? I wondered if we were staying 2 nights if we would get 2 coupons?

Looking forward to visiting in April, we've never been there. Wonder what the weather will be like? Guess it could go either way...

Thanks again for all the great info,

Suzanne

Mccarthys5....i also thought that we would get 2 coupons....Only one per visit...i am going to challenge the Embassy on that one....You are booking on a one night package times 2 or 3 times.I have called them on this, they say one coupon per visit...the web-site should make this clear...My husband is a manager at another Keg location.....it is a very honorable company.....push the fact that you have booked 3 one night packages.

Hope this helps.

ok Mccarthys5

just reread your last post....you will get one coupon for dinner ...If you like Italian...go to Zapini's...just a 5 minute walk away...great prices..great food....or go to the flying saucer restaurant...If you drive up the road for 10 minutes//things will be cheaper.

We just returned from a 2 night stay with the Travelzoo package (I talked about it in the post "Sheraton or Embassy Suites?")... we booked 2 one night packages, as that's what they are, and when we asked the second day to keep our same room and "checked in," we received a second set of vouchers (for the dinner, shuttle, breakfast, and manager's reception)... if you don't, I would complain because it's two different trips. Otherwise, you could just pack up your things, "check out," (they should be able to store your stuff for awhile), and then check back in with the next night's deal to get your stuff... it's a great deal! Also, if you have your kids with you, it sounds like a great idea to call ahead and have them take out the basket, or just put it up in the closet when you get there... there were kid's coloring books and toy trucks and stuff that kids could easily rip into and then you'd have to pay. A good lesson about hotel pricing, but not much fun of a lesson for a young, tired kid. Have a wonderful trip!!

Mid-April is luck of the draw for some attractions. Knock on wood, we've had an incredibly mild winter so hopefully most attractions that are dependant on good weather will open early..Maid of the Mist, Whirlpool Aerocar, etc.

Other attractions that are open year round that are fantastic include, Clifton Hill (the street of fun by the Falls), Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, Skylon Tower, IMAX Theater, Butterfly Conservatory and quite a few others.

Take the kids to Niagara-On-The-Lake for an afternoon and pick up some fudge or just walk around - there are also a half dozen wineries along the route where you can go for a tour (some places offer grape juice instead of wine for the little ones).

Hope you have a great vacation!
