Fallsview Hotels. Which one to choose?

Hi- I would like to stay at a hotel that offers a view of the Falls.

I looked at the Sheraton, but saw that some reviewers said it was dingy and dated with dull brown carpet.

I'm debating btwn Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Marriott Niagara Fallsview Hotel. Can someone please tell me which hotel they recommend and why?

I'm looking for a fallsview, clean, up-kept hotel.

Thank you

Hi Starlite2s,

Welcome to the NIAGARA FALLS TRAVEL FORUM

Before addressing your base Question (which Hotel to Choose?)… let me give you some pointers about Hotels in Niagara Falls in general…

The first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the area… The Niagara Falls Gorge is aprox 1 Mile (1.6 Kms) long from the Brink of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls thru to the Rainbow Bridge.

Consulting and On-Line Map (I like GOOGLE MAPS because it offers both Satellite Views & Street Views in addition to the ability to calculate times & distances… including those for walking).

The Niagara Falls Interactive Photo Map is also a good tool for orientation

niagarafallslive.com/Niagara_Falls_Interacti…

As they say sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 Words… the photo shows NF Canada in the foreground, with Fallsview Blvd Hotels lined up side by side along the top of The Escarpment…

The Fallsview Casino Resort is the huge complex in the middle of the photo… with the interesting green dome. The Marriott Fallsview is behind the pie shaped building (that is the Radisson) near the bottom right hand corner.

If you click on any Hotel… you can be taken to a website that describes each.

When it comes to Hotesl in NF… they are found in several areas… over looking The Falls, Near the Falls Gorge, or further afield. Hotels that tend to offer rooms with Falls Views are grouped either along Fallsview Blvd or Falls Avenue… the former being at the top of The Escarpment (ridge) and the latter at the bottom. (In the Photo Map look for the Black Building with the Green Roof near the Canadian side of The Rainbow Bridge... this is the Sheraton on the Falls... which is at the base of Clifton Hill)

Getting up and down The Escarpment... isn’t such a big deal in the summer time when the Incline Railway is running (and offers longer hours)… BUT it can make a HUGE difference other times of the year. No matter what, remember that you’ll be doing a lot of walking when in Niagara Falls… and some of it will be UP Hill.

When it comes to Fallsview… be aware that the word in a Hotel’s Name… DOES NOT necessarily mean that they offer excellent rooms with a Falls View… Fallsview is both a Street & a Neighbourhood in NF.

And when it comes to Falls View Rooms... there are many Hotels that offer them... just make sure you know what you’ll be paying for. Rooms on Higher Floors tend to offer the best views… and not all Falls View Rooms are created equally… there will be rooms that offer Partial Falls Views (could be partially blocked) – Full Falls View (a good view of at least one of the two Falls) – and Panoramic Falls View (which will offer a view to both the Canadian & American Falls). A list of Hotels that offer Falls View Rooms can be found in the TOP QUESTIONS ABOUT NIAGARA FALLS (the box to the right of this screen)

Other things to bare in mind when reading the HOTEL REVIEWS…sometimes when trying to decide between two properties it is helpful to look at JUST the Statistics portion and leave the Comments aside for a minute…

The Statistics portion comes from the Survey Portion that each Traveller fills out with their REVIEW. This is one piece that compares apples to apples…

As for the Comments portion… when it comes to REVIEWS also be sure and look at the Contribution Numbers for the writer… those Star Badges that appear under their User Names… TA Members who have higher numbers are usually invested in the whole TA experience… and use the TA Website extensively to Plan their Vacations… (you can even look at their TA PROFILES if you click on their User Names)... generally speaking... someone who has say only 1 REVIEW may be brand new to TripAdvisor... and as such they may not have used the Website to do any research about their Destination beforehand (hence a good part of the reason they could be disappointed with their stays… if you don’t ASK… then you won’t know beforehand eh?)

Consequently… if one doesn’t do any homework beforehand for Trip Planning they may not know about the positives & pitfalls of the Destination BEFORE they travel… in the case of Niagara Falls… you’ll read a lot of HOTEL REVIEWS that complain about things that ARE NOT HOTEL RELATED… but still end up in the REVIEWS... although they shouldn't... and truly have NO BEARING on how a Hotel Performs... things that can be altered due to the nature of this Tourist Destination (Weather – Crowds – Parking - Expensive “Touristy” Destination etc).

Lol, a lot of long time TA Members use the “Olympic Method”… and throw out the BEST and the WORST REVIEWS… believing that "the truth" actually lies somewhere in the middle !!

Let us look at the two Hotels you are considering… and their current rankings & statistics...

As of today ~ Friday, August 5, 2011 at just after 4 PM EDT they are ranked as follows by TripAdvisor…

MARRIOTT NIAGARA FALLS FALLSVIEW HOTEL & SPA - Ranked at # 5 out of 134 Hotels for Niagara Falls. It is a 4 Star Hotel (as awarded by the Hotel Industry based on facilities). This Hotel has 4 HOOTS (circles) for Satisfaction as awarded by TA Members like yourself who have submitted HOTEL REVIEWS. Todate there are 1178 Reviews, of that 586 gave it an Excellent, and 408 gave it a Very Good which accounts for its 88% Thumbs Up recommendation. The latest Review is dated August 4, 2011.

NIAGARA FALLSVIEW CASINO RESORT – Ranked at # 3 out of 134 Hotels for NF. It is a Un-starred Hotel (not uncommon in the Casino Category) with 4-1/2 HOOTS for TA Member Satisfaction. Todate there are 109 Reviews… of that 68 gave it an Excellent, and 31 gave it a Very Good… which accounts for its 90% Thumbs Up recommendation. The latest Review is dated July 31, 2011.

Both of these Hotels have been long standing CAA / AAA 4-Diamond Award Winners.

The Marriott Fallsview since 1998… and the Fallsview Casino Resort since 2004.

As I have been keeping track of the Hotel Rankings here on TA for awhile now… I can tell you that the Marriott Fallsview has fallen a bit in the standings since this time last year (it was # 3 for a long while with 4-1/2 HOOTS)… by contrast the Fallsview Casino has been moving up the list… and as of today it nudges out the Marriott Fallsview by two percentage points, and two spots on the Ranking List.

Truly you can’t make an error I think in either… as they are so neck and neck… you therefore might want to take into consideration other elements about them… particularly COST… LOCATION… (Marriott is most convenient to the Incline Railway)… and PARKING (Parking at the Casino is usually Cheaper than other venues in NF… even FREE if you are a Guest of the Resort… or make a practice to gamble each time immediately before taking the car from the Building… see the Casino Website for more info).

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!

3. Re: Fallsview Hotels. Which one to choose?

The only problem I have with the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort hotel is that almost half of the rooms only have a view of the American Falls. When you try to book a "Deluxe" room (which is the only one they will offer) your preference for a FULL view of BOTH falls is simply a request and is NOT guaranteed. In other words you get whats available when you check in... a crap shoot!

So if you absolutely got to have the best falls views in town Guaranteed, the casino may not be best choice.

It is a great hotel however especially if you are playing in the casino. There are good dining options and the parking is free if you get players advantage card and play a bit.

TO STARLITE2S

You might also want to take a look at Embassy Suites... they are owned by the Hilton chain... and the location in NF is amazing... I truly believe that they have the market cornered when it comes to BEST PANORAMIC FALLS VIEW Rooms !!

Check them out here on TA.... their REVIEW Page is filled with great Traveller Photos.

Cheers!

PS... TRAVELLER TIP... No matter which Hotel you choose... be sure and sign up for their Loyalty Club BEFORE you make your Reservation. Oftentimes that will give you some perks... be it a better room, better price, or some complimentary items. Takes 2 Minutes to sign up on line, costs nothing, and even if you never get enough points to get a FREE Night... there are still other benefits & FREEBIES you can earn / cash in on.

My friends and I spent Labor Day wknd in Niagara Falls.

Thank you for suggesting the Fallsview Casino. It was perfect and we had a view of both Falls. It was amazing.

A little pricey, but I was willing to pay for the view.

Loved it...thanks so much!

Yep, I'll work on writing a review tonight and uploading pictures.

Yes, we'll be back next year, but will probably stay in Niagara on the Lake- Old Town. It's such a cute town and we would love to spend more time at the wineries.

I'm sure you'll hear from me again next year : )
