Sklon Towers dinner

Have revs. for Skylon Tower for dinner but have been seeing alot of negetive comments regarding waits on lines and screaming kids running amok. Does anyone have comments on the Watermark . This is an engagement dinner and I'm looking for something high class and elegant. Cost isnt a factor, but looking for a place where i'm not sitting next to someone with a t-shirt on.

Hi Paxton85,

To be perfectly honest with you… the majority of the Restaurants that offer Falls View Dining are going to have issues…

Either they are going to have kids (maybe even a lot of kids)… or a great view but so-so to ho-hum food.

Trying to find both a Good View, and Good Food is going to be a challenge… throw in Romantic… and IMO now it is almost impossible…

That is until Massimo Capra came to town and recently opened his latest venture … at the Crowne Plaza Hotel

I haven’t been there yet… but by all accounts it is quickly becoming a head-turner in NF… so much so that there is talk that it will easily earn a CAA / AAA 4-Diamond Award in its first year of operation…

Having not been, I can’t speak to the atmosphere / clientele … but the comments here on TA imply that it is an excellent spot for… The View / Romance / Special Occasions / and to take Business Clients

Have also heard that Tony Aspler’s input to the Wine List is rewarding for those of us who enjoy our grapes “crushed & fermented”… and features some nice Canadian wines from Niagara… and not just the LCBO List regular stuff… but some select & reserves as well.

MASSIMO CAPRA’S RAINBOW ROOM FALLSVIEW RESTAURANT – Currently ranked at # 9 out of 168 Restaurants in Niagara Falls… with 4-1/2 HOOTS for TA Member Satisfaction. It has 72 Reviews, of which 47 gave it an Excellent, and 12 gave it a Very Good… which accounts for its 90% Thumbs Up Recommendation. The latest Review is dated September 20, 2011.

Crown Plaza Fallsview – Rainbow Room = http://fallsviewrainbowroom.com/

TA – Massimo Capra’s Rainbow Room (Fallsview) Restaurant = tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g154998-d14…

Hope this is helpful,

PS… When you make your Reservations… BE SURE and tell them the occasion, and that you desire a table AT the Windows with an excellent view.

PPS… I believe in passing that one of the regular contributors here on the FORUM… either a Local Advisor or DE did mention that they’ve been… (unfortunately can't recall who)... BUT hopefully they’ll see this topic and comment as well.

My wife and I just spent last weekend in NF and did dinner at the Skylon Tower "Revolving Dining Room". That's the more upscale and more formal fine dining. They also have the "Summit Suite Buffet Dining Room" that is above the Revolving Dining Room is more family friendly.

I had made reservations online from our hotel room and had chosen the Saturday 8:30pm time slot. On the reservation, I notified them that it was our Anniversary and that a nice table with a great view would be greatly appreciated.

When you get to the Skylon, they confirm your reservations and give you a ticket to go up the elevator. Getting to the elevator you're stopped for a photo against a blue backdrop for a souvenir photo, should you choose to purchase afterwards.

When we went, the majority of people were older and they fit about 20 of us in the elevator. The trip us pretty neat itself. There was another younger couple and we say that they were dressed in jeans, shirt and the guy even had a hat on. I wouldn't dress like that for fine dining.

When we got to the restaurant, they take your reservation stub (provided at the checkin downstairs) and you stand and wait abit for your table. We saw that the Maître d' gave the younger couple before us a seat furthest from the window and I was worried that maybe there isn't any good tables left. But in fact they had honored our request with recognition and we were escorted to a lovely window table. The views itself with such a nice dinner and ambiance makes it very much worthwhile.

Their dinner menu:

My wife and I had some Cosmos (excellent!), she had the Chicken Breast "Cordon Bleu" and I ordered the Seafood Medley and Escargo.

Here's a photo I took of my $70 plate:

My wife says that's the best chicken she's ever had in her life and I can honestly say that my meal exceeded expectations.

After a few drinks each, along with dinner, our bill including gratuity (I usually do about 20-25%) our bill came to $230. Considering the experience, the view, the atmosphere, service and free ride ticket up, I would say that it's worth it.

Oh, they also came by before our dinner and taken a photo of us. And during our diner, the girl came back with a mounted souvenir double spread photo all ready for purchase! I'll take a pic and post it up later, but for $35, mounted, we were more than happy to buy it.

Overall, our Skylon experience was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it.

Go to the Skylon Tower for the observation deck only. I highly recommend it, best view in town. I would not recommend the Skylon for dinner though. IMO the food is average at best and overpriced for sure. You're basically paying for the revolving view experience.

For upscale fallsview dining at about the same price...
