Niagara Falls for 1-2 nights over Thanksgiving weekend

Thinking of doing a weekend getaway over Thanksgiving weekend as I have some time away from work. Niagara is on the shortlist of weekend excursions we've been wanting to visit, as we've never been there and its a 7-8 hr. drive for us from Maryland. Its a pretty long drive for 1-2 nights. Are hotel rates cheaper/ more expensive over Thanksgiving weekend or less/more crowded compared to summertime? I heard the Maid on the Mist and other top attractions are closed. Would it be better to wait and do Niagara (assuming 1x in lifetime) during another time with my pre-teen & teenage children? Just wondering if we should save this trip for a better time to get more enjoyment and go somewhere else this fall before the weather turns really bad for the winter.

Our Winter Festival of Lights will be underway and it's quite spectacular.

Some nice bargains to be had in the way of hotel rooms in November and it will be fairly quiet. There is shopping on both sides of the border and the drive along the Niagara Parkway between the lakes can still be pretty; as long as it's not too snowy or cold.

First to note is that U.S. Thanksgiving is not a Canadian holiday, so doesn't have a big effect on crowds here.

Although some of the top attractions will be closed (Maid of the Mist, White Water Walk, Whirlpool Aerocar, Whirlpool Jetboats, Marineland), there is still plenty to see and do including: Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara's Fury, Butterfly Conservatory, Bird Kingdom, Skylon Tower, Skywheel, all the museums and attractions of Clifton Hill, indoor waterparks,Imax, dinner theaters (Greg Frewin Illusion, Oh Canada Eh?, King Henry VIII Feast)

Also, the Winter Festival of Lights will be on, with millions of lights throughout Queen Victoria Park, Disney Motion Light displays, Friday Fireworks Over the Falls, outdoor skating at the brink of the Falls, concerts, etc.

Also note that all persons over 16 must have passports, passport cards, enhanced driver's licenses or Trusted Traveler Program Cards to cross the border. Those under 16 need birth certificates.
