Drive to Falls vs Organised Trip

We're planning on staying in Toronto and visiting the falls for a day in August.

Would we be better going on an organised trip, or driving down ourselves (we plan to hire a care anyway)

Thanks

Chris

Oh for sure drive yourself. It takes a couple of hours. One good idea is to park the car in the lot for the PeopleMover, a shuttle that will take you to most of the important attractions in Niagara Falls. The price is quite reasonable.

second that. avoid organized tours, it will be easier because we all share a common language.

Thanks for that - Is driving in Canada fairly easy? I've driven in the USA, but here in the UK we drive on the left and have roundabouts, so it's always an adventure driving anywhere else :-)

Getting to Niagara Falls is easy from Toronto.

Once you get on the Queen Elizabeth "Motorway" you stay on it all the way to Niagara Falls.

highways and roads in the us and canada are the same, except for that whole imperial/metric deifference.

Another vote for driving :-) .... and a suggestion to consider splitting the day between Niagara Falls and Niagara-On-The-Lake. They are close enough - see this map

www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp…

Moving it "West" by one click will keep the Niagaras in view plus show a portion of the QEW high way (Burlington to Niagaras) that you will be travelling to/from.

Also - there are estate wineries in/around the area between Grimsby(?) and Niagara, in case that's of interest to you. Specific info re tours, etc. is likely available from a Visitors Centre.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

If you take Tourist-Traveller's excellent suggestion of a side trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake do go from Niagara Falls to NOTL via the Niagara Parkway, famously described by Churchill as the prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world.
