Help with a day trip plan at Niagara. Stay at Embassy Suites

Hi All,

I will be travelling with two kids (8 and 4 yr old) from Toronto to Niagara on Wednesday next week. I plan to arrive at the hotel on Canadian side at around 11am, however can wait to check in at the hotel later in the evening. I have booked a night at Embassy Suites and depart Niagara on Thursday morning.

Need help with planning my day. I would like to do Hornblower/Maid of mists, Cave of the Winds, visit parks and anything that i can fit in a day. We all hold US passports,

1. Where should i park first? near welcome center or paid parking lot or casino(players card trick) or hotel parking.

2. Where should i go first? Please help with recommendation on the path I should take to cover the above points of interest. I am open to take WEGO pass if that is most effective way to cover the day.

3. We want to be in the room for fireworks. I have requested a fallsview room and will likely get one.

4. I can probably spend some time next day morning on the US side (goat island) and save some trip time on bridge crossings.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on how nice of a day it is, I'd start with Maid of the Mist then head to Cave of the Winds from there...

Thanks tdsuperstar.

Any advice on the parking vs WEGO?

Also, I read through forums that Clifton Hills seems to be a nice place to go with kids. Any comments?

Thanks

-john.

You could just park at the Embassy and then take the Incline Railway down to the Falls. You will get off the railway right in front of the Table Rock Welcome Centre. There you can stand at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls and do the Journey Behind the Falls if you are interested in that.

Then you can take the pleasant walk along the Falls/Gorge towards Hornblowers and Clifton Hill. It's not a long walk but if the kids get tired along the way, you can stop anywhere in Queen Victoria Park for a rest.

If you still have time and energy left, you could always walk across the Rainbow Bridge to the American State Park.

When u check in to the Embassy suites make sure you clarify that you want a falls view room that will have a view of the fireworks. One end of the Hotel directly overlooks only the Horseshoe falls and the other end where you will want to be overlooks both the Horseshoe and American falls.

My husband and I just returned (yesterday) from a four night stay at the ES . . . it was a great hotel and the views were awesome! (we paid $50 night for an upgrade to the 42nd floor FULL fallsview (American and Horseshoe Falls) and it was well worth it.

We did park in the Casino. However, with just one adult and two smaller children, logistically it might be a challenge for you. My husband dropped me and the bags at the ES and then he drove down and parked at the Casino while I checked in. The hotel is is less than 5 minute walk from the casino. We did gamble at the Casino; if you get a free Players card, and gamble at least $20 cash in a SINGLE machine, you should qualify for free parking when you check out (there are parking garage pay machines at certain levels where the elevators are). You must gamble the money on the day you check out the garage, up to 6am the following day (example we gambled Saturday, qualified for free parking, and IF we had left the garage by 6am Sunday we would not have paid for the parking). If you don't gamble, the fee varies based on the day you leave the garage - we paid $5 for our whole stay as we left on a Wednesday and there were no big events going on. Over the weekend it would have been $10 if we left on a Saturday or Sunday (again, without earning points from gambling). If you pack lightly, you could park there, then walk with the kids and check in at ES.

The incline railway is quick transportation to Table Rock; however it is $2.50 per person, each way (not sure about 4 y/o).

Just want to make sure you realize the Cave of the Winds is on the American side, so you'd have to cross (could walk) across the Rainbow bridge to get there. I have read there is transportation from the bridge area to the CotW entrance.

Oh, and one last thing - it took us over two hours driving from Toronto to NF in traffic on the QEW, and we traveled on a weekday mid morning (that was due to construction).

Have a fun trip!

Sherrkel,

Thanks for the 'after trip' report, lots of great information.

Question for you: if you did the Adventure Pass as you planned, did you do the timed entry, and how did that work out for lineups, waiting ,etc.?

Lots of great information. Sherrkel.

I have read that the lines at Maid of Mist are really long compared to HornBlower on the canadian side. Any inputs in regards to this?

thanks

Hornblower offers reserved times, MOTM doesn't. I think it's as simple as that.
