Hotel question: falls view worth it?

We're trying to decide on a hotel for our 3night stay in NF. We've narrowed it down to the Marriott Fallsview or the Courtyard Marriott a block from the falls.

The other fallsview hotels are - surprisingly - more expensive than the Marriott FV. The only problem is that we would have to get a 2 bed room instead of a king room (king rooms are way too expensive) at the Marriott FV. So for about $160/night, we could stay here.

OR, for about $90/night we could stay at the Courtyard Marriott - but no view at all. We're trying to do the trip on a budget, but we might go for the better room if it's really worth it since it's our first time going to NF.

Thanks for your advice!

Look at it this way. How much of your day in Niagara Falls will you spend looking out that $160 window. If money is no object, then go for it. If you'd rather spend the $70 on something else, there are many, many places to get views of the falls, from right at the brink to 600ft up in the Skylon Tower. I'd definetely take the Courtyard.

Fallsdude - good point! The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort is sold out, and all the other fallsview hotels are more expensive. We might just go with the Courtyard after all.

PS: thanks for being so helpful in this and my previous post (about NF and other Canadian cities itinerary)!

I just stayed at the Marriot overlooking the falls on the 8th floor and

I was blown away. I didn't think I would be so impressed but it is really unbelievable. Worth it...I think so. You can feel the windows vibrate from the falls and if you open the window the roar is a soothing white noise that let's you sleep like a baby.. Also when you come home at night you can still enjoy the falls because of the coloured lighting.

Also it is a much nicer hotel than most of the others.

I think you're going to be happy with either room, as a room. You've narrowed it down to 2 great properties. Fallsdude thinks like I do. But I also think it's hard for people who see the Falls all the time to judge.

So, I've got a dumb question for you - ever cruised? Pick an inside cabin over a balcony? Happy with it and the $ you saved, or think "Rats, wish I'd got that balcony" ?

If there's ANY chance after seeing the Falls that you're going to regret the choice for a long time, go ahead and get the Fallsview room. If you're certain it's 3 x $70 that's better in your pocket, go Courtyard.

The view of the Falls from our room at The Marriott was something I will always remember and I would say worth the extra money. If it is your first time to Niagagra Falls then I would say go for it. The Fallsview Marriott was a superb hotel anyway and the view spectacular day and night.

I've been visiting Niagara Falls a couple of times a year for 20 years and would tend to cast my vote with fallsdude on this one.

I have stayed in several hotels/motels in the Niagara area, and the last few years were at the Marriott Fallsview, we are going there again in mid October. There is alot to be said for saving the few hundred dollars by choosing a non fallsview hotel, if your budget is a little tight and you are able to manage the walking, i would go with a non-fallsview. But, the Marriott Fallsview is a wonderful hotel, and the views are worth every extra dollar to me, but I am also not always able to do all of the walking necessary to really capture the full effects of Niagara. I enjoy being able to see the Falls whenever i look out the window...but when we were younger we did the non fallsview and walking, so alot depends on your circumstances. I love Niagara Falls and really want for you to enjoy it to the fullest, but if your budget could be better served by the Marriott Courtyard then do that and be sure to spend as much time as possible down by the Falls and definately do The Maid of The Mist!!!

I stayed three nights at the marriott fallsview on the 12th floor and the views were breathtaking!!! i took the most amazing pictures from my room. I ate dinner two nights in my room overlooking the falls and it was very relaxing. the weekend i went it rained all day for 2 of the three days so i was really happy i chose the falls view because i didn' t get a chance to do all the outdoors things i had planned.

i mention all this because i spent a fair bit of time in my room enjoying the view, to make sure i got my money's worth, because the view is what your paying for.

I had never been to the falls before and will probably never go again because there are so many other places in the world i want to see. I am always on a tight travel budget but i rationalized it by thinking to myself , i'm going to go once and go all out. I spent most of my travel budget on the hotel room and not on other attractions. it all depends what's important to you on this trip. i had a great time and would reccomend it to anyone.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. We went with the Courtyard Marriott in the end. We got a deal for about $100/night which includes full breakfast each day and it's a whirlpool room.

Since we're going to Canada instead of Maui (dad is sick and found out we're going to a wedding in San Francisco in December so spending $$$$ on Maui was out of the question) we're trying to stay at reasonably priced places and not go crazy.

Hopefully we'll enjoy the view of the falls from many of the lookout points!
