A few questions

Mother and 20 y/0 daughter traveling. Curious what the drinking age is in this area of Canada? Shopping? Restaurants? We plan to visit in March, what will the "condition" of the falls be (frozen?) also will the Maid of the Mist be operating at this time? Anything else to do while in the area? Thanks so much :)

Drinking age is 19. you will have to keep an eye on her! ;o)

There is a lot to see and do around Niagara. There is a lot of shopping and a lot of touristy stuff. Expect the falls to be in full flow - no ice unless the weather does something Bizarre.

Clothing will be a difficult choice since the weather is very variable at this time of year. You should bring a good mix of cool and warm weather clothes. Expect anything from the 40's to 60's for temperatures. Dependable weather forecasts are available at

March tends to be rainy, but last year records were set in 4 Ontario communities for dry conditions. At the same time, freezing rain storms and tornado were issued around the 15th last year.

When you are in Ontario, you may want to try to get in a wine tour. I know California has some good wineries, but many folks aren't aware of Ontario's wine region which is right on Niagara's doorstep. Be sure to try the Ice wine. The grapes are frozen on the vine before harvest, making for a very sweet dessert wine.

Maid of the Mist won't be operating yet. They don't put the boats in the water until all ice is gone from the river, usually sometime in April. You can still enjoy most other attractions: Journey Behind the Falls, Butterfly Conservatory, Bird Kingdom, Casinos, Niagara on the Lake, Greg Frewin Theater. Many, many restaurants in Niagara Falls. Check here (www.restaurantica.com/on/niagara-falls/).

Shopping is not the greatest. We have one small shopping mall and an outlet center, plus dozens of souvenir places. Closest large mall is in St.Catharines

If you will have a car during your visit you might go in to Niagara-on-the-Lake (20 minutes away) and look at the shops there. A much more upscale tourist trap.
