restaurant scene

Anything new on the restaurant scene in NOTL and area? We have done Stone Road Grill, which was great, and several of the winery restaurants. Looking for casual fine dining at reasonable prices. One restaurant for dinner, and another more casual one for lunch. Has anyone tried the NOTL golf course for lunch?

Not new on the scene, but one of our favs is Queenston Heights Restaurant, which is a restaurant run by the parks department, and is right beside the Brock Monument near Niagara Falls. The drive from NOTL along the Niagara Parkway is beautiful, and the view from the restaurant is spectacular. It's situated on a hill overlooking the Niagara river right where the river curves, giving diners the illusion that your dining suspended right over the river.

The menu is varied, the quality excellent, and the prices reasonable. Also, the wine list has a lot more options than the winery restaurants.

The portions are large, so unless you are a big eater, you may want to share an appetizer, as they are more like entree size portions.

This restaurant is fairly new, we stopped there for lunch recently after touring some wineries. The food was excellent, very nice interior and they have a deck for outside dining overlooking a small creek if the weather is good.

We have also eaten several times at the Anchorage Bar & Grill. Their sandwiches and salads are excellent.

I agree the Old Winery restaurant is a great place to eat in NOTL, they have very good Italian style thin crust pizza and other good stuff on the menu, a bit pricy but compared to the restaurants on the main drag not too bad really and better food too!

The NOTL Golf Club is great food at great prices and an awesome view of the river and Fort Niagara. I would also recommend the Riverbend. It is a little pricier but a beautifully restored mansion on the Niagara Parkway. Their patio overlooks the vineyards and Peller Estates Winery.

I have to endorse winecritic's comments. The NOTL Golf course restaurant is just about the best view in town (the Old Town at least). But to make sure you get full advantage of make reservations and ask for a table by the window. Second best is the table by the fireplace, not so scenic but very cosy and comfortable. Riverbend, which, like the Golf course is now owned by the Wiens family, the old NOTL hoteliers, is more haute cuisine than the golf course. While I agree that the Riverbend dining room has a pleasant view of a vineyard (not their own oddly enough) I actually have prefered to eat further back from the window in the lounge part of the restaurant just because it is more relaxed and more comfortable.

Have a great time.
