Honeymoon -Niagara on the Lake or Niagara Falls

My fiance and I are thinking about staying at Niagara on the Lake for a few days after our wedding. I have been to the spa at the Pillar and Post and loved it. However, the nicest room is rather expensive for what I think we'd get. Does anyone have any advice? Or should we stay in Niagara Falls at one of the fallsview hotels?

Personally - I don't think that Niagara Falls is that great of a place for a honeymoon. It is beautiful there, and yes there are lots of do there [i.e. casino, look at the falls, shop] but it isn't the warmest place either at this time on the year. Unless you are thinking about going later in the year - than great!

I use to live about 30-45 minutes from Niagara Falls, and i loved it there - but than again, i am one of the people that like haunted houses etc. They have some great places to go out for dinner there, and their hotels are beautiful.

Hope you have a good trip!

Don't go to the Piller and Post! When I stayed there last year I was very dissapointed and remembered thinking "If this were on my honeymoon I'd be crying right now."

The second trip to NOTL I stayed at Lakewinds... a beautiful (and romantic) B&B. The place is very professionally run, so you won't have an owner who doesn't leave you alone. I wasn't there for a special occasion so I am not sure what their policy is, but I know many B&Bs will go the extra mile for guests on honeymoons etc.

While Niagara Falls has many AAA/CAA four diamond hotels and is worth a day trip, Niagara on the Lake is much more romantic (if a little overly cutesy)...

As promised, I said I would let you know my thoughts on the town. Although quiet this time of year, I found it refreshing. I am one who does not like a lot of crowds while I am vacationing. My wife and I take vacation at "odd" times of the year for this reason. NOTL is all of a 20 min. drive from the falls. I highly recommend staying in NOTL and do the Falls as a daytrip.

We stayed at the Harbour House Hotel. I highly recommend HHH. The service is outstanding, the location is convenient and the price is affordable.

If you are looking for a romantic setting for your honeymoon, you will be hard pressed to find it in Niagara Falls, where, sadly it has become increasingly touristy over the years. Niagara-on-the-lake is a much better choice, a well preserved historical town that has retained it's charm and beauty and is well known for it's many quaint, charming, and beautifully restored B&B's, many of which are very affordable. Check B&B listings under Niagara-on-the-lake Hotels. The drive from N-O-T-L to Niagara Falls along the Niagara River is quite nice, and once there you can always have dinner atop the revolving restaurant at the Skylon Tower to view the falls. If you go after dark, you'll have a spectatular view of falls when they are beautifully and colourfully illuminated. Another suggestion while you are there is a visit to the Butterfly Conservatory, where you can walk through a tropical setting of hundreds of colourful butterflies, some which may alight on your shoulders and head....a memorable experience.
