Local Transportation in Oakville

Can someone advise us of the nearest GO station for catching a train to Downtown Toronto - we will be staying at the Country Inn by Carlson on 2930 South Sheridan Way, Oakville. Also, pl let us know the approx. distance from the hotel to the station - we would like to walk if it is not too far! Thanks.

The Clarkson Station would be closest. While you are technically in Oakville, this hotel is almost right on the border with Mississauga so I would think that it would be easiest to walk to Winston Churchill Blvd and use a Mississauga Transit bus to get to the station. This location is convenient for travelers with a car but not as handy for those relying on public transport.

Here are the directions from Google maps:

Transit directions to Clarkson GO Station Rail

from

Walk to Winston Churchill Blvd At Sherwood Heights

About 4 mins (400 m)

Winston Churchill Blvd At Sherwood Heights

get on bus 45

Bus towards Southbound

Clarkson GO Station Rail

Travel time: about 14 mins

The bus schedule varies throughout the day.

You can read about Mississauga buses on their website at

http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/miway

for example, you could click the Plan My Trip button to get it to tell you the details of your bus to the Clarkson GO.

For example, in the Plan My Trip screen,

for the From, select the Tab called Intersection

and enter

Mississauga

Winston Churchill

Queen Elizabeth Way

and for the TO select the Tab LANDMARK

and enter

(nothing on this line)

Clarkson GO

You can put in the dates and times you want to leave.

GO Trains run into Toronto about every 1/2 hour from Clarkson. But you can check the GO schedules too at

www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/default.aspx

Of course you can also take a taxi to/from the GO station if you want or need to.

A taxi shouldn't cost you much more than two bus fares and would be easier. The GO train is on an hourly schedule apart from early morning and late afternoon when there are extra commuter trains. The hotel can probably tell you how much a taxi will be.

I agree that Clarkson is closer than the Oakville station.

Actually the GO trains are now every 30 mins on the Lakeshore line even off peak and at weekends. More often in the rush hours but it can be very crowded then, and you might not always get a seat depending on how many stops the train has already made.
