Valentines Day in Ottawa

My boyfriend and I will be in Ottawa for Valentines Day. Any suggestions on things to do? We are there for 2 other days so suggestions on things to do are appreciated.

Goodness, certainly depends on your interests and to a degree where you are staying + the weather. The blockbuster attractions are the National Gallery and the major museums. A couple of dining suggestions. The Sweetgrass is run by native people (aka "Indians" we say "First Nations") and serve very up-scale cuisine versions of traditional native peoples' foods. Very unusual, and very, very good. For a pub, if you can get in at a quiet time of the day to the Auld Dubliner pub you can get a terrific table that looks out onto the heart of the Byward Market and people-watch along with your food and drink.

Have a great time.

Hello.

Dinner at the Chateau Laurier might be something to consider. The Chateau Laurier is a beautiful hotel and the restaurant there is very romantic with great food.

Skating on the Rideau Canal would be fun. You can rent even skates there.

If you have the time another option is to tour around Parliament Hill it is such a pretty area. Rockcliffe Park is also a wonderful area to go for a walk.. if the weather co-operates. Hope this helps a little. Enjoy Ottawa!!

Whatever you do, book your restaurant in advance. All the good restaurants will fill up. A special lunch might be an easier and cheeper option. You will be in Ottawa during Winterlude so there will be lots do. If you're young at heart there big snow slides in Jacques Cartier park and skating on the canal is also popular. There is a reasonable priced restaurant actually right off the canal called the Canal Ritz.

Also if you're lucky the ice sculptures in conferation park will still be standing.

You're visitingOttawa in the middle of Winterlude, so there will be lots of outdoor activities (weather permitting): skating on the canal, ice and snow sculptures to view, snow slides in Jacques Cartier Park. Some of the restaurants suggested are pricey. The Canal Ritz is a good choice - three miles south of Parliament Hill and right next to the canal, so you can watch the skaters passing by. There are also a lot of restaurants and food booths in the Byward Market: you will enjoy strolling there in the daytime and can check out menus for your evening meals. Don't forget a visit to the Parliament Buildings (free!) and the Canadian Museum of Civilization (far more entertaining than the name implies, also has an Imax theatre). The National Gallery is great for art lovers and has a lovely gift shop. Three days won't be enough!

Littlefootann,

Here is a link to Ottawa's Winterlude. I saw a little about it on television the other day and it looks like great fun! Runs from February 1st to the 17th.
