Canada Day,Kanata to Parliment Hill best way to travel?

We will be in Ottawa for Canada day,and would be interested in experiencing the celibrations at Parliament Hill,we will have a hire car,but was wondering what would be the best way of traveling to Parliament hill from Kanata for the day,We know that the area is closed to traffic for the day so is it best to use public transport or drive park and walk,or a combination of both,Thanks all.

From the Eagleson Park and Ride in Kanata it is a very efficient 25 minutes on the bus to downtown. The buses run on dedicated roads with minimal stops... cost is $3.30/person.

Parking downtown... don't even think about it.

You could drive most of the way into town (to Westboro Station for instance), park there, and jump on a bus for 7-8 minutes. However, in the grand scheme of things, once you figure out parking, etc you'd be lucky to save 5 minutes over the bus only option.

Seems to me that after the fireworks, the busses leaving downtown are free (?). Keep checking the link for details. Good travel planner too. http://www.octranspo1.com/

And here's a great deal for a "day pass" for the bus - copied from the same site. Day pass is $7.75

.

"The DayPass is also the perfect way for families to travel and explore the city on weekends and statutory holidays, as up to six people can travel on one DayPass!

A "family" includes up to six people, with a maximum of two age 13 or older."

Take the bus. Parking downtown is a zoo. After the fireworks, the bus is free. It's crazy crowded at the end of the evening, but it's still better than trying to find a parking space!

If you stay until the end of the fireworks, buses to Kanata are on Albert St (parallel to Wellington in front of Parliament Hill, but 3 blocks south). The street is usually full of buses waiting for the crowds, but if you miss the first 'wave' of them, being at the west end of downtown near Elgin St gives you a better chance of getting on one before it's full.

As others have said, driving into the core and finding parking is (a) time consuming, (b) stressful, as there are lots of others doing the same, and (c) likely to find your car parked much further from the Hill than where the bus in from Kanata will let you off (on Slater St).
