Liquor store in SSMarie

We are traveling by car into Canada for a fly in fishing trip the end of June.

I have checked all the requirements for what we can bring in with us from the US and we are pretty sure that 1.5 litres of alcohol is not going to be enough for our extended trip.

Is there a liquor store somewhere in SSM where we could purchase some? We are staying at the Watertower Inn.

Thanks for your help!

Liquor in Ontario is only sold at the government LCBO stores. There are 3 in SSM:

There is one located just up the road from your hotel.

Just be aware that the LCBO has more limited hours than the private liquor stores you might be used to, most stores close early on Sundays and none are open on statutory holidays (like July 1).

Also note that if your alcohol of choice is beer (or you just need some to make batter for the fish you catch), you have a choice between the LCBO and the Beer Store. The Beer Store has a half dozen locations in SSM, including one just north of your hotel. As compared to the LCBO, the Beer Store has a larger and more reliable, but perhaps less interesting, beer selection. For wine and liquor, the LCBO is your best if not only choice.

But do use your import limit, since alcohol will be more expensive on this side of the border.

Unless there is something specifically Canadian you want to sample, I'd be bringing my booze from the US...

tdsuperstar, it seems from the OP's post that the issue is their booze needs exceed the customs allowance.

ColdInMichigan, if it helps, note that the allowance is per person (aged 19 or over). The allowance is 1.5 L of wine (2 standard bottles), OR 1.14 L of hard liquor (40 oz), OR 8.5 L of beer (about a 24 pack).

if you are are staying at the water tower inn then there is a liquor store and a beer store within 1/4-1/2 mile from you and easy to find. they are closed on sundays and close at 9 evenings.

<<they are closed on sundays >>

Not according to the LCBO and Beer Store websites, which claim they are open Sundays from noon to 17:00.

Don't worry you can find liquor and beer stores nearby. On websites you can find rules/timings but the best option is to ask from the staff of your hotel. They must be better aware of things as it must be a daily thing for them to tell people staying in their hotel about liquor stores. They can even help you beyond hours.

The closest store is 800 m north of the hotel. And open Sundays. Here's the link:

Another thought............

Would it make more sense for us to stop at the Duty Free Store once we cross the bridge rather than the LCBO near our hotel?

Seriously, we're not drunks, but 6 of us will likely go thru more than our allowance during our time there. Fishing is thirsty work :-)
