Tourist attraction between Toronto & Hamilton ????

We have an afternoon on the last day of our holiday spare and would like to visit somewhere West /South West of Toronto before leaving from the airport at Hamilton in the evening. (We do not want to have to drive through Toronto on a weekday, late afternoon). We've a couple of small children so any ideas would be much appreciated

what time of year are you coming?

African Lion Safari may be an option if it is open when you visit. http://www.lionsafari.com/

Royal Botanical Gardens is another option. http://www.rbg.ca/

Royal botanical Gardens is a good choice. Young children might enjoy the rock garden area, or the wilderness area. There is a boardwalk that goes through the wetland area.

THere are also many other areas in the gardens, but probably would not be much fun for small children.

African Lion Safari is also a good choice and the kids would love it.

YOu could stay in Burlington for your last night and not be too far from the airport. Or stay in Hamilton.

There are also some nice hiking trails in the area, not too strenuious for little ones if they like the outdoors and woodsy areas.

I've never been, but another possibility is Dundurn Castle. Obviously, it isn't old or even a castle by Yorkshire standards, but might be a good slice of colonial life.

The city of Hamilton web site is a bit of a mess, but this will take you directly to the Dundurn page: http://tinyurl.com/y7n6n8

You might want to stop at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville. It is a great park for children because it has a little farm with some animals, and especially in May it is great because the Trilliums are blooming!!!

There are also a lot of great conservation areas in the Hamilton area that are perfect to see at that time of year because the waterfalls are flowing nicely.

Check out the Hamilton Conservation Area's website, and particularily Spencer Gorge Conservation area.
