By car it is about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours (longer during rush hour times or on weekends)

Trains and buses are 2 to 2 1/2 hours

we are actually coming from nashville. i thought that it was easier to fly to toronto and then get a shuttle bus to accommodation in NF but reading a bit about it it looks like going to buffalo and then getting a shuttle across the border to NF might be the way to go. Is that what you would recommend?

Buffalo is closer to NF than Toronto. Sometimes, it's a matter of where you can get better-priced flights or direct flights.

Whether flying into Pearson (YYZ) or Buffalo Niagara (BUF), you can get a shuttle to Niagara Falls. The Buffalo shuttle will have to go through Canada Customs at a bridge crossing. When you fly into YYZ, you'll be going through Customs while you get your luggage.

Well most fly in to Buffalo because its much cheaper. Seems Canada air taxes are very high compare to the USA.

Why not rent a car ? Most company's don't charge extra to cross in to Canada as long as you return the car in the states. Just tell them ahead of time. You will need to pay for parking in Toronto and maybe the falls depending on your hotel you pick.

Actually, it's not Canadian "air taxes," it's primarily the landing fees at Pearson Airport.

But the point stands -- it's MUCH cheaper to fly to Buffalo, and it's closer to Niagara Falls than Toronto is.
