Hotel Choices

We are looking at the Hotel Victoria, Strathcona and Days Inn. Does anyone have anything to say positive or negative? We are two women so prefer a safe area.

As far as location, Hotel Victoria and Strathcona (which are 2 blocks from each other) are close to shopping and tourist atrractions. Just a block east of Carlton Days Inn is Jarvis - which some outsiders refer to as red light district.

Actually, the Days Hotel is between Yonge and Church, not that close to Jarvis (which is just a little seedy, not a full-on red-light district).

It's very close to the subway and shopping -- but for most tourist attractions you have to go elsewhere.

Thank you for your assistance. Would it be safe for us to walk in the areas these hotels are in at night?

There are very few areas in downtown Toronto where it's not safe to walk at night. Wherever there are a lot of people around, you're perfectly safe.

With that in mind, you may feel more comfortable walking to the Days Hotel than to the Victoria or the Strathcona, which are in the middle of the financial district. That area is pretty empty at night. It's not unsafe, but you may feel less comfortable there.

On the other hand, the Victoria is just a block away from the Hummingbird Centre and a whole bunch of nice restaurants on Wellington, Front and Colborne, so it's really not so bad.
