Hi, thinking of visiting Toronto in Oct with 2 teenagers. Any ideas on where to stay that is central please?? And not too expensive??
Online I found the Days Inn. Mixed reviews. I will write back once I'm there. I'm staying in April. I couldn't beat the air/hotel package I found at www.lovelandbargaintravel.com. Hope that helps.
Delta chelsea is a reasonable downtown hotel that is clean and is in a fantastic location, they do have promotions on and you can find some great deals.
Try http://www.travelzoo.com you can find some amazing deals.
When we travel to Toronto we always book one of the most inexpensive hotels with a pool that we can find that has good reviews - I don't think we've ever stayed at the same place twice. The Days Inn is often one of the cheapest, but we disliked it so much the one time we were there, we won't go back. I did stay at the Delta Chelsea once because of a special they had on, and quite liked it but it is usually more expensive than other hotels in my experience. I search the hotel booking sites such as expedia and travelocity, as well as the hotel web sites . Then I cross reference with reviews on tripadvisor. It's labour intensive, but allows us to travel on our tight budget. If you're on a serious budget, there are many hostels also that you can probably get a private room, often with ensuite. Check out hostelworld.com for hostel reviews as well as on here. Good luck!
I would not stay at the Days Inn if you have a choice. If you are not familiar with the city, you may find the area to be a bit unsavoury (kittycorner to where the prostitutes work in the downtown area). It's also at the entry way to the gay neighbourhood of Toronto (which I happen to love and visit) but not everyone enjoys being part of that scene.
In October, most hotels should have deals on. I have heard the Westin Harbour Castle (on the Toronto waterfront) has great off-season deals and the Holiday Inn on King Street is apparently quite reasonable, as well.
"Not too expensive" is a subjective description - so if you have a budget in mind, that would help. As I say, you're coming in off-season so should be able to find a great deal.
JF, you're already coming in with the GBP which is trading about 2x the Cdn dollar, so you're already lauging!
For families, Residence Inn Downtown has been getting rave reviews here; great location, good prices, it's got kitchen facilities, etc.
For more traditional hotel, there's two in the downtown core that are generally priced way below their upscale neighbourhood (Yorkville, which can run up to $595/night for luxe accommodtions): the Holiday Inn Toronto Midtown is just on the edge of the very fashionable Yorkville area, with the Royal Ontario Museum down the street (ROM). Right on the subway, on the edge of the U of T campus, tons of eateries in the neighbourhood. But, it's a standard HI experience; just a routine room, great neighbourhood, and ~150/night Cdn.
About 5 minutes from there is the Howard Johnsons Yorkville; by all accounts the rooms are a bit small, but for an october weekend, you're looking ~160/night Cdn.
The new Super 8 in Chinatown might not be much to look at but the location is fantastic.
I searched and searched for a reasonable hotel to stay with my family when we visit this August. I decided on the Radisson Plaza Admiral Toronto Harbourfront. The rates were very reasonable and they had good reviews on this site. I got a 20% discount rate, right on their site. I had to pay if full but that is okay for the rate I got. I looked into a lot of hotels and didn't want a huge hotel with 1500 rooms like the Delta Chelsea. Also, a member on this site told me about bidfortravel.com. That site lets you see what others have paid for hotels using Priceline. I had already booked but saw that someone got the same hotel as I got for $47.00 but it wasn't in prime summer time. So you may have some luck.
Sorry, it was www.biddingfortravel.com.
