Avoid Traffic crossing Toronto

Hi.

Im planning a trip from Quebec to Cambridge and i wonder if it's a good idea to take Highway 407 instead of keeping the 401 to avoid some traffic since i'm planning to be in Toronto by 4 pm.

Thanks

You can do that, but you'll get a substantial bill in the mail. Not just the extortionate toll that the private owner-operator charges, but an administration fee because you're a new user and don't have a transponder.

you want to be clear the west toronto area by 3 pm or you are asking for big time traffic delays.

Hi;

Rush hour in the Greater Toronto Area is about 3 pm to 7 pm. Even utilizing the 407 ETR, you will encounter stop & go traffic delays.

As appistappis has pointed out, you need to be past the airport in the west end of Toronto by 3 pm to avoid the traffic.

How much time the 407 would save you varies from day to day with traffic conditions. There are radio reports every 10 minutes on 680 AM, which you'll be able to tune in well before you'd have to make a decision.

The cost to go from Brock Road (the easternmost point) to the 401/407 interchange (west of the city) should be exactly $20 ($17.45 one-way, including the video toll charge, plus a $2.55 account fee for the month).

But your best bet would be to get there earlier, if possible. Fancy a night in Montreal or Kingston?

Toronto A.M. rush hour is 6:15Am to 9:45Am although I hear that traffic has been a little lighter than usual recently due to high gas prices?
