Toronto, 1000 Islands and Niagara!

Hello Toronto forum!

Me and my husband are planning to drive from Montreal to Toronto, stop at 1000 Island, doubt: continue driving or is it worth to spend the night?

Plus, we only have 2 nights in Toronto before flying to NY, is that possible to arrange a trip to Niagara Falls without prejudice our stay in Toronto?

…Taking another suggestions too, thanks!

The 1000 Islands boat cruise is well worth it. If possible take the cruise out of Gananoque rather than out of Kingston, you see a more scenic part of the Islands.

You can certainly go to Niagara Falls for a day trip, the opportunity cost being a days-worth of Toronto's attractions, so that has to be your call.

Have a great trip.

About ½ way between Montreal & Toronto is the town of Gananoque (pronounced GAN-AN-OCK-WAY), the "Gateway to the Thousand Islands". From there you can take a boat tour of the 1000 Islands.

They offer 1 hr, 3 hr, and 5 hr tours. The 5 hour tour stops at Boldt Castle, which was built in 1900 by the former owner of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. If you wish to walk about the island and tour through the castle, you will need to clear U.S. Customs, as the island is in American waters. Be sure that you bring your identification as required.

If you decide to stay in Gananoque overnight, I strongly recommend the Islandview Inn Bed & Breakfast, which is located only 1 block from where the tour boats dock, and the St Lawrence River.

For more info on the 1000 Islands;

Niagara Falls is approx 80 miles / 130 km, an average drive of 1½ hours southwest of Toronto, without traffic delays.

You can take a bus tour of Niagara Falls from Toronto. Check out Gray Line Canada.
